I bought Adobe Photo Elements to organize my digital photos. I might also scan other photos so that I can organize them with this software, but first I need to learn how to use the software before I can start organizing the photos.
How to organize my photo collection
How I did it: Nowadays all my photos exist on a digital camera and a Flickr account, but I have physical pictures from years ago that needed to be stored somewhere. I just sat down in one afternoon and organized everything into two shoes boxes, which take up less room than all the half-empty photo albums I'd started over the years.
People doing this are also doing these things:

I now have all of my boxes with photos. I need to do the following:
1. Open boxes;
2. Arrange photos according to year;
3. print photos from the years that I didn’t print digitial photos;
4. buy photo albums for photos;
5. Think of themes for albums (i.e. family, vacations or just years);
6. make copies (one set for scrapbooking, one set to give away)
7. scan, and burn to cd-rom digital photos (back-up photos);
8. find a place to store photos (digial, and paper copies).
It’s been a long time since I worked on this goal! I intend to complete this goal before the end of the year!
I think that this will help me to get the photos organized, as they’ll all be in one place, and easy to see/ access.
I talked to a photographer and he told me that a shoebox is a good way to store the negatives as it keeps dust off them.
Still haven’t scanned any photos… hope to do it in a couple of days. The scanner is still sitting in the box….
I bought a bunch of photo frames yesterday and took them home only to discover that 2 of the frames have loose binding. The glue has come undone on the edges that hold the glass in place. I must find some crazy glue and try gluing it back together. I don’t want to return them, because I like the pattern, but I might have to if I can’t find crazy glue.
I also purchased a frame set collage that I’m using for my wedding photos. It’s been fun putting it together. I just need 3 more photos to complete the frame collage.
I came very close to getting the scanner out of the box… must do it in the next few days!
I’m going to need to do the following to get my photo collection organized:
1. Sort photos into digital and 35 mm
2. Find negatives
3. Put negatives into negative sleeve holders and buy more negative sleeve holders if necessary
4. scan negatives onto CD-roms
5. Take digital photos off old desktop computer
6. Organize digital photos into folders on computer
7. Label CD-Roms and find a place to store them
8. Print any photos that should be in albums
9. Put photos into chronological order (use envelopes to sort the photos)
10. find a theme to sort photos into albums
11. Decide on how many albums will be needed
12. Set aside some photos for scrapbooking (the duplicates)
13. Send some photos to my cousin
14. Label photos in albums with a caption
I think that this is it.
I knew that I would find them… just couldn’t remember where. I discovered them and finally got them developed. I can’t believe that I had photos from nearly 3 years ago! Now, I’ve got to keep on top of this and get my photos developed more regularly.
I was delighted to find one of my missing rolls of film. I forgot what was on the roll so I got it developed and discovered a couple of photos that I really liked.
I bought a scanner tonight so that I can get my photos and negatives organized. I’m hoping to scan most of the negatives so that I’ll have some photos to scrapbook.
I can’t wait to try out the scanner… hopefully it will produce good quality prints.
I haven’t looked too hard but my mind has gone blank as to where I might have put it. I hate it when I think that I’m putting something in a “safe” place where I “think” that I’m going to remember only to totally forget where I put it last.
Anyways, I bought some negative holders that are supposed to hold approximately 20 rolls of film. Once I start working on this I should think about finding a binder to contain them.
