OK, OK. I know it’s a bit strange. Asians are supposed to know their own language. But I don’t know THAT much. I can’t even read Chinese newspapers. Or books. Or understand every word Chinese speaking people say.
If you are reading this and can speak Chinese, you probably know more than I do. Seriously. All I have is a reading book for 7 year olds and 2 activity books for 12 year olds. It’s really hard (the 12 year old one, not the 7 year old one).

I’m giving up the classes because I have more urgent things to pay for, I guess it’s time to keep learning at home by myself :(

I learned some when I was a kid(now I’m 45) but over the years, some of it has faded and all I pretty much know is my name(given to me by my dad), numbers to 10, men, and the color “red”. I’m pathetic!

The class I’m taking is extremely small and a bit disorganized, but the instructor is nice. It’s definitely one of those “you get out as much as you put into it” sort of things, and I could certainly be putting more into it, but it’s still fun to be taking a language class again. Also, I can practice with my boyfriend.
Must get workbook, CDs and optional books…

Anyone wants to join me? 8)

I think I’m going to bite the bullet and register for a Mandarin class with the Department of Continuing Education. The fact that it’s only once a week sucks, but I can actually afford it, unlike UNM’s exorbitant tuition. For now, aside from tracking down someone who would give me phenomenally cheap one-on-one tutoring, DCE’s class seems like my only serious option.
Oh, it’ll be good to take a language again.

I’ve taken one semester of Mandarin, but it’s fairly rusty. I can remember more speaking and listening than I can writing, since I’ve taken much more Japanese and tend to remember the Japanese readings for kanji/hanzi.
Now that my sweetheart is learning some Mandarin, I really ought to brush up on and improve my Mandarin. Then we can help each other practice, study, and get better!
