have fun without spending money

The other day my brother, my cousin and I decided (for reasons that are now lost to me) to walk from his apartment to the downtown ped mall, a good ten or fifteen blocks, instead of driving. As it happened, it rained the whole time and we got lost on the way back and ended up having to climb up a wall and cut around the back of some other apartment buildings. But the funny thing was, even though I was thoroughly soaked and had been walking for about an hour, I felt happy. I felt simple and relaxed and pure and strong in a way I can’t really explain. And this inspired me, because if a little fresh air and exercise could make me happier than sulking about in a trendy cafe with my $8.50 frappucino, surely finding happiness in the free things of life couldn’t be too hard. 5 years ago
