dress like a hot librarian but still think like a geek

The excitement has faded 3 years ago

What I liked about this goal was that it made me think about my outfits with a very critical eye. I’d been making do with frumpy outfits that did nothing to flatter me or boost my self esteem, and now when I choose to dress casually, I’m more aware of it being a choice, rather than default. I’ll dress HL when I feel the urge, but I’m starting to focus of being a geek of my own particularities.

is the ultimate hot librarian: a peacock. (But I also think the peacock is gender appropriate, his voice is very low.)

HL today! 3 years ago

Well, except for the wet hair.

I definitely looked HL for the interview. (Aside from the hair. Can’t do much with that. But at least I avoided the pony tail trap.)

failed pitifully today 3 years ago

It’s cold. I didn’t want to wear a short skirt. What I wanted to wear was flannel lined jeans and a big bulky frumpy sweater. What I did wear was a really long a-line, skirt in a fuzzy fabric and a sweater that would be hl if it was with the right outfit. I think I just looked silly, to be honest. But I didn’t care. I’m tired of cold weather and sitting in a chilly office.

I have noticed that I’m only of only two women that ever seem to wear skirts at this place. Seems odd.

Serious set back 3 years ago

I went shopping today for a top to wear to my interview on Thursday (Coastalgal’s birthday!). I went into Talbots and found an absolutely kick ass HL top: a bolero type sweater with one button by the neck and a closer fitting matching tank underneath. Structure wise, it was really flattering, great hour glass effect. And, while if I had gobs of money, sure I’d buy it, it just wasn’t me. I liked it, but I wouldn’t wear it after this interview. So I bought something more casual that I absolutely adore and will definitely wear and I think will actually look nice, but not overly formal for the interview. And so no one will scold me for being too casual in an interview, I’m not going to link to Talbot’s. But if they want something dressier than this, I’m probably not the right person for the job in any case.

4 outfits later 3 years ago

The problem with having high expectation is how many tries it can take for even mild success. Today I did pretty well for HL. Not unmistakably HL, but cute to HL range. The skirt was a good length and tailored right and, of course, I love the damn shoes.

I saw cygnet246 after work yesterday, and she achieved HL. However, I think she’s managing the goal of not wasting so much time on the internet as well…

Very important. I wore the cute black ones.

I decided it was warm enough to skip hosiery. Which totally improves my attitude about HL skirts. I hate hose. And tights are just kind of … cute?

But I think I’ve hit HL today. Hope so, because ironing is above and beyond, and I don’t want to have done it in vain.

So I’m wearing a cute bluish green cardigan that clings in the right places, but only has two buttons, so it’s loose after emphasizing the hourglass. Tulip skirt with heavy seaming, ends at the knee. Clingy white shirt with a scoop neck. The bra, as it is so often, is an issue, but that’s because I didn’t want to do the nipple thing, and this one is padded enough to make me feel like I’m projecting insecurity about my breast size. (which, amusingly, is nonexistant.)
