too hard to pin down when this could be considered complete – I am using and learning more rails everyday. I feel that the steepest part of the learning curve is behind me and will consequently check this off.
Rewriting Java-based software using Rails is a good idea, and exactly what I am currently doing as an evaluation of the framework. :)
Nothing’s perfect, so of course any library or programming language will have its own set of headaches, but I’d much rather have Rails’ headaches then the ones I would have with PHP or another programming lanaguage.
I’d recommend finding some kind of substantial project you want to accomplish and working on it as the best way to learn.
Plus deadlines, deadlines help. :)
Learning Ruby on Rails was the best thing I ever did in the field of web development. it’s just SO much better than hacking away at PHP.
