Homemade blend of organic merino, soysilk and recycled sari silk.
How I did it: I found a one-day workshop through Communiversity (a kind of skill-sharing program in Kansas City). It turned out I simply wasn't attaching the roving correctly and I needed to spin the spindle faster.
Lessons & tips: Find a one-day work shop, which are usually offered at fiber shops. It's fairly inexpensive and is pretty easy to pick up.
Resources: Kansas City Communiversity, The John Wornall House.

I’ve kinda had this in my head for a while but now it is text pixels too.
I’ve now got the wheel, got the wool & now I just need to acquire the knowledge via the book which I’ve also got.
Luckily my mother dabbled in this shortly before she had me & has given me all of the gear :D

I found a used Louet S10 on ebay a couple of days ago. My daughter and I dyed some roving together (she chose the colors) and I tried my wheel for the first time by spinning this. It was fun!

I learned to spin on a wheel today and I love it. Of course, I am still learning and it’s going to take a lot of time and practice – but I love the rhythm of the wheel and the feel of the wool in my hands.
I also plied my drop spindle yarn and finished my first “skein” of yarn! I used the word skein lightly, because it is only a yard or two long. haha! It is chunky, it’s a mess, it won’t ever be used to MAKE anything – but I DID IT!! :) The woman who teaches me suggested I make an ornament for our Christmas tree with it – just hang it as is…..I think I might just do that! :)

I really enjoyed it. I only worked with a drop spindle today. I can’t wait to go back next week and get on the wheel!

to set up my lessons but the woman who teaches them is out of town. I will be hearing from her next week. I found out that while i am in the class I will be renting a spinning wheel. This is in the cost of the class. I am really excited about this!

My mom told me today that she didn’t want to buy me any “stuff” for my birthday and that she had originally planned to get me a gift certificate for a yarn store. However, I mentioned to her that I am pretty good for yarn right now and went on to tell her about a wool spinning class on an organic farm not too far from me. Well, she is going to pay for me to take the class for my birthday present! I am sooooo excited! As soon as I get home (I am in my hometown right now for a week) I am going to give them a call. Yes!
I do not have time to spin my own wool; my job keeps me on the road. Can anyone out there help me find a spinning source?
I have the spinning wheel, a number to phone and enquire about spinning lessons . . .
