Stronger bones. Yesyes. When I have bone and muscle density such that I no longer float at all, I will be well pleased.

Well, I remembered my Fosamax this morning, but I keep forgetting the Calcium pills on the weekend.
I was diagnosed with osteopenia (call it pre-osteoporosis) last year. Now I’m supposed take Fosamax weekly and 1500 mg of calcium daily. I usually get at least 500 mg of calcium daily and I almost always remember to take my Fosamax on Sunday. But I’m horrible at sticking to a routine. I cut back on coffee years ago when it made a heart murmur worse.
When I had my bone density test done, my femur head was -1.8. That’s WAY too close to that damned -2.0 magic number. I’m 43 years old, caucasian, thin, and short. I’m also perimenopausal, so life’s just a great big bundle of joy right now.
Well good news, the new place I’m working at has TERRIBLE tasting coffee. So much so, that I hate drinking it (honestly what’s the point of weak coffee????). So I’ve cut down tons and tons.
Although, DANGER my sister is working at Starbucks for the summer….better watch out on that one.
Today I bought calcium pills, hopefully this will help neutralize all the coffee I’ve been drinking…...
I had a bone density test last year, and it turns out that I have the bone density of a 65 year old (which is like 40 years older than me!!!) SCARY!!
Apparently the causes are small bone structure and being caucasian (well I can’t help it, I was born that way).
So I’ve been trying to cut down on caffine (v. hard), drink more milk, and work out more.
I don’t want my bones to fall apart in 10 years.
My doctor is fabulous and does routine bone density scans with their physicals. I was 25 when I had it done and I had a good amount of bone loss in my lumbar spine. I’m pretty sure mine is due to genetics, but it is good to check for bone loss at any age. I’m on prescription medicine for a year and hopefully that will help.
I have low bone density so I’m learning about calcium supplements, hormones, and other fun stuff. The chewy candy-like calcium supplements I think are nasty. Too sweet. So I’m trying a mixture of chewable (like a vitamin C pill) and ones you swallow at mealtimes.
