Will tentatively pursue this peak in early 2010. I’ve swapped the order of this and Denali so that I can climb Denali 2011 with a freind.

I’ll be climbing Aconcagua in Feb 2008 with an expedition team—that is the plan, anyway.

Am I getting hooked? After Nepal/Tibet and Kilimanjaro people keep asking about the next challenge… this could be a goer! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aconcagua
An amazing experience to climb a mountain especially one that is nearly 7,000m/22,000ft. The views, the personal struggles, the freezing temps, strong UV. All these things helped build a stronger constitution in me. I would like to climb another mountain, but I don’t know how much interest I have in high altitude climbing. The lack of oxygen really takes a toll on your body. They call it the death zone for a reason. I hope everyone climbs at least one mountain. I’ll never forget how bright and clear the stars are, or how amazing the sunsets are down there somewhere between Chili and Argentina.
Together with my broter Rogelio we went to climb Aconcagua on February 2005. We got all the way up to Refugio Berlin and then were trapped for three days in a storm. After that we ran out of time and energies to finish the climb on that trip. It is still on my list, though.

Climbing Aconcagua is not for superman. If you have at least basic experience in highmountain climbing or have done many hikes, you can do it.
I climbed Aconcagua by False Polaco route. It is more scenic then Normal route and not more dificulte. I recomend it!
so maybe it’s time for a different goal. On the positive side it frees me up to climb a few hills I have been meaning to get round to in Europe and the USA.
my friends who wanted to do this with me have been getting cold feet and thinking of other adventures. I may change this to climb Mount Whitney instead. I still aim to climb grand teton, just so much to do and not enough time!
