two more weeks... 2 years ago

God(s), or lack of… two more bloodly weeks till I leave to go home. And I still dont have everything I need. Then again beer, cigs, and food. (then again cigs are food) can wait till the week of leaving. So who else is going home this year??? And can’t wait to leave… (like me)

    ain’t happening: money and time.

Not this year 2 years ago

A few factors combined to show me that this is not the year. We’ll wait and see for next year. I had to sell my tickets to pay bills, and I realized Burning Man is not quite a part of what I want to spend my time/money on this year. Other educational experiences prevail.

My previous entry was wrong 2 years ago

There won’t necessarily be 33% more art this year, they just recieved 33% more art grant requests than they did last year.

On the other hand they announced the art projects they’ve given grants to and listed them in a Jack Rabbit Speaks email. I looked at the projects and there are some absolutely amazing ones. I’m really looking forward to seeing them at Burning Man this year.

On the other hand I’m somewhat unsure whether or not looking at the projects before hand is the right thing to do or not. One of the most unique things about attending Burning Man last year is that I was amazed every day at the new art exibits or the changes to the existing exhibits. Having seen some of the plans I now know what to expect. In addition for some of the less specific art projects, I’m wondering if my vision of them will exceed the actual exhibit.

Only time will tell. I’m sure that the sheer number of art exhibits I haven’t seen will allow me to be blown away anew at this year’s event. However depending on my experience this year I’ll decide whether or not to investigate the art exhibits before the event the following year.

My excitment is building, now I just need to start working more earnestly on my projects.

There will be 33% more artwork this year 2 years ago

I read that there will be 230 works of art this year as opposed to the 170 they had last year. I was overwhelmed at the art last year and I’m afraid I might go comatose over the number of pieces this year. It’s going to be a good one.

My projects are still mainly in the planning stages although I’ve got a concept for my el-wire costume this year. I’m also possibly going to change my plan for decorating my bicycle this year. Time will tell, it’s only 4 1/2 months away.

Tickets! and packing list 2 years ago

Bought my tickets Wednesday afternoon! They went on sale at 10AM PST (1 PM EST here) and I was waiting with my laptop and refreshed the page exactly at 1, but the BUY button didn’t show up so I refreshed again (now about 2 seconds past one). The queue page came up and I was #733 in line. Brought the computer upstairs while I finished making the dough for my vegan herb onion rolls, and checked the screen every minute or so. 15 minutes later, the deed was done and my tickets were paid for through PayPal! Now I’m scouring the net for advice and compiling a very comprehensive packing list. I’m getting so excited!!!

P.S. The rolls were excellent! Made with Burning love!
The recipe is easy. Try it here – http://vegweb.com/recipes/bread/9244.shtml

I just bought tickets 2 years ago

Now all I need to do is find a project, work on that and work on my personal projects.

We're already preparing 3 years ago

My wife and I attended BM for the first time in 2006 and are already excited about returning in 2007. We are already designing and planning for 2007 based on the 2007 theme. I’m already enjoying BM even though it’s 10 months away.
