Whoo, I love being done with school, but getting my master’s was worth it. 1) Because I now have a Master Degree and 2) Because I’m now qualified to do some stuff.
This is definitely something I’d like to do, and I know there are numerous online programs for this degree. However, I really have no intention of going anywhere near any sort of schooling for a while after I finish my master’s in Resource Management. I need to pay off my existing debt first!
Step 1. Apply to library school (check)
Step 2. Be accepted to library school (check)
Step 3. Start library school (check)
Step 4. Finish library school
Step 5. ???
Step 6. Profit
Assuming that the baby I am carrying is not miscarried, then I will not be pursuing my MLIS any more. I started on this before we were thinking about children, and as we thought about it I realized that it will be more important for me to homeschool and stay home with the children than it will be to work outside the home. After they’re all grown I will probably want to pursue my idea of owning a bookstore. So there is no point in my life at the moment during which I will be able to use the MLIS. No point in wasting all the resources to get it!
S – specific
– Is this goal specific? Yes.
M – measurable
– Is this goal measurable? Yes.
A – attainable
– Is this goal attainable? Yes.
R – realistic
– Is this goal realistic? Yes.
T – timeline
– What is the timeline for finishing this goal? I am waiting to see if we’ll be able to have children before deciding what to do with this goal. If we get pregnant, then I will give up on this goal. If we are infertile, then I expect to complete this within 5 years.
As my husband and I think more about children, we are re-evaluating the way we want our lives to go. I would like to homeschool our children, which would entail not working. So I’d like to stay at my current job for about another 6-7 years, until we can get totally out of debt, and then quit working. I’d stay at my current job because working from home ROCKS, and I can be here as ‘backup’ while my husband watches the children during the day. By the time I’m ready to go back into the workforce, I think I may be more interested in starting my own business (maybe a bookstore!) than in going to work as a librarian. Given that, why should I get the MLIS? Also, that would be another $100 a month to put towards cutting down our debt. I am really enthusiastic about the material I’d be learning in the MLIS program, but I can learn that on my own no problem. The program would mostly be to get the paper so I can get the title at a library somewhere.
