Worth doing!

art postcards for this goal. My little ones really did a beautiful job and I am almost sad to send them off to a complete stranger buut I think everyone should have access to art no matter what their circumstance. I am sending them all in one envelope since I have decided it will keep them from getting defaced in the post.

I am really proud of X and T for putting so much kindness and caring into their pieces for Mr. Crawford. I hope it can give him some joy too.

i've had to put this on hold until now  — 2 years ago

Worth doing!

i have had so much going on that i haven’t seemed to have been able to breathe much less relax enough to bless someone else in such a small way. Today however i am making the time. i actually stayed up all night so i could interact with 43t and take care of a few file clean ups around the house. I also had a blessed reduction in the price of some water color postcards pop up in my face recently as a reminder.

Postcards will go out.

I will scan the results when I catch a few breaths again. Now I am off to pick up my blessed vehicle from the repair shop!

humorous card  — 2 years ago

Worth doing!

I just sent him a humorous card.

Originally, I delayed acting on this goal because I wanted to spread it to other people, so RC wouldn’t get a wealth of cards & others would get none. That originally proved difficult for FrannieGirl to arrange, but now she has a lovely new plan

However, I decided not to participate in the new plan at this point, because I realized that I am expending all my energy for correspondence on writing frequent cheery newsy notes to my mom (who is confined to a nursing home with an incurable disease, to which she will succumb at some point).

I also realized that in the time that’s passed since this goal was originally created that RC has probably experienced a great falloff in the amount of mail he has been getting. So I decided that I would actually make him the recipient of my card, after all.

I’ve just mailed him a funny card with a cheery note. Hope he still checks general delivery!

Good Morning all,

Ok…....if people want to continue sending cards to Ronald PLEASE DO SO…...I know I will, we can’t forget about him.

The next step is to open a new goal so since my handy dandy invite list is at my office and not here at home I won’t be able to send out invites until tomorrow so hang on and I will get it to you. If you don’t want to wait for the personal invite or if I accidently miss you…..our new and permanent goal will be titled….....(drumroll please).................
Touch the Life of a Stranger in Need

See you there and again, THANK YOU ALL for participating with this goal for Ronald!!!!!!!

Frustration is the mother of invention.......  — 2 years ago

OK….......so here’s the deal. Seeing as how I seem to be getting a lot of closed doors from my end…or rather just a lack of follow through by people (not you people….you’ve all been WONDERFUL…the people at the shelters here),I have decided to do something a bit unconventional.
I am going to be closing this goal for myself and checking it off as done (even though I will still be sending an occassional card to Ronald and all of you can too if you like) and I am going to open a new goal with a similar theme.
Since so many of you have opened your hearts to reaching out to people here is my idea.

If you want to send cards/letters etc to people in need the new goal will require you sending me a note through 43P requesting an address. I will then send you the name of one of the people or a family my husband and I actually work with on Saturdays and an address (a third party address for privacy reasons)you can mail things to. For most of them I can probably provide a picture of who it’s going to and maybe some background about them so it’s more personal too. Then when the cards /letters are recieved we will personally hand them out to the people.

What do you guys think? does that sound like a plan? give me some feedback ok? If you guys are up for it we can start as early as today.

update on new project  — 2 years ago

Worth doing!

i don’t want you guys to think the new writing project is forgotten about.
I spoke to the woman at the shelter and they are trying to come up with a way that we can write to residents there that won’t compromise privacy laws but will also allow us to encourage individuals.
We had discussed a bulletin board for all cards to be posted on so everyone could read but they liked the idea of personal cards instead. Then they were thinking of having us write the first line of the address in pencil so once it arrives they can erase it and put in the actual name of the person they want to give it to. This idea is not so bad but I was concerend with how many they would get…..would it become overwhelming for them since they are so busy. HOWEVER…..thta may be the route we take. They have a quick turnaround there so to send to a specific name would be impossible on our end which is why it is wiser if they change the names upon reciept so they can give it to current residents.

Ok…..that’s where things stand for now. As soon as I get a final answer I will post the new goal! :D
Waiting on a final decision.

hey! i hope you believe me, but I know Ronald Crawford  — 2 years ago

Hey everyone! I’m kinda new to this 43things web community. I just want to say that I have known Ronald Crawford for a little less than a year now. I first saw him a couple of streets from where I live last summer, and I’ve been seeing him on a regular basis. The reason why I’m telling you good people all this is because I just met up with Ron this past Saturday. I told him about this group, and he was so blessed and happy to hear that! But I saw him and despite the tremendous amount of support, encouragment, and letters he’ve been recieving, he’s still trying to make it day by day. He stays near the Bronx, and he’s been beat, robbed and taken advantage of many times. He actually had a duffel bag of letters he wanted to respond to, but it got stolen! He also wanted to tell you all that he’s been in the hospital because of an infected foot, and he wants to apologize to you all for not being able to write back…

Anyways, this is kind of long, but please continue to write and encourage Ron. I believe this is such a beautiful thing to do, and I am encouraged by who started this for doing such a lovely thing.

May Christ bless you all!

Peter

p.s. maybe I can get Ron to a computer, and talk with you directly…let me see what i can do….
