How I did it: It was Ross' "Bon Voyage" date. We planned it about a week ago and I knew I wanted it to be really special, a big memorable occasion.

I picked out a pretty dress (after inquiring about what color suit he was going to wear, because I think nothing is worse than when a nicely-dressed couple clashes horribly) that was full of color and very flowy. It was actually one that I had worn to a winter dance in high school and then to a friend's wedding this past winter. I never wear makeup and don't own any but I went to Ulta and got a stick of eyeliner and a subtle shade of eyeshadow. I messed around with my hair, trying to get it to do something new, because Ross likes long hair and mine definitely isn't long right now.

My mom recommended this Italian place called Amici Miei where my family went after I graduated from high school all those years ago. Ross is Italian so I was worried he'd be hard to please but he loved it. It turned out to be a three course meal (we split a plate of calamari and then each ordered an entree and a canoli) with a bottle of white wine that came to $113, including tip. I don't regret spending that much money at all. We were there from 7:30 until they closed at 10:00, and we were the last customers in the place. We talked and drank and were supremely happy, and it was a really beautiful night.

Lessons & tips: If you aren't sure where to start ask for help! Take the advice of others!

I walked into Ulta and when the sales lady asked if she could help me with anything I honestly answered "Yes, everything!" When I told my mom I wasn't sure where to take Ross she told me where we could get good food ***and*** a quiet, real-date atmosphere.

    Went to 1492 for dinner and Juniors for drinks with Steve one weekend and then two weeks later we went to BJs for dinner and Zeke’s for drinks (with Emily, Kirk, Shawn, and Jackie.) He picked me up and paid. Sounds like a real date to me!

    It seems like all of my relationships have been more along the lines of a fling. They start with a drunken makeout session or something and then we “hang out” for a few months until it fizzles. Sure, I’ve been on dates within those relationships, but I’ve never met someone that was so taken with me that they asked me out on a real date right from the beginning. It would be nice.
