So last week it was just delayed; yesterday’s request for an update received a response that my spare battery was damaged and they’re waiting for new stock – and delivery should be ‘next week’. Again.
So I’ve sent a politely stinging email suggesting that they either send the camera separately, or refund the money to my credit card until they are actually ready to dispatch.
Grr.

I’m going to wait till I get it before I cross it off the list, but I ordered a Nikon D60 today. I’m excited and a little freaked out about spending the money (and the money I will spend in the future to accessorize) but I’ve wanted to take this hobby up a notch for a very long time so I need to stop feeling guilty and start feeling this is worth it!

So it’s day five of the 2-5 day delivery, and no camera. I emailed last night chasing order status, and got some waffly apology and ‘it’s in the last stages of processing’ and they reckoned it’d be with me next week.
I think I’ll wait til I actually get the camera before I point out that it’s fraudulent to charge my cc over a week before you dispatch any goods…

It’s done – or at least, ordered :)
Sat for half an hour with my friend M last night, as he talked me through options and picked out the best choice for me. Am well happy with the decision, now, and finally navigated google checkout to place my order!
[edit: I likes Google Checkout! It lets your track your order – not delivery, but it’s showing the order placed, passed to the company, and that they then charged my credit card already!]
So… some time during the week I’ll be ticking this goal off – and adding another re learning to use it!? :)

Hot damn! Tonight I attended an event organized by the professional association to which I belong, and WON a Canon Powershot G10 camera! I was elated! Thank you CAPIC and Vistek!

I’ve been getting along with cameras borrowed from friends and relations for about 5 months now. Clearly not a sustainable situation. I find myself unable to decide what to get, though, hence the delay.

5azul is setting up goals
Next action: Look on the Internet for Canon cameras that are less than $800 dlls, and can use the lents I already have.

I’m feeling more settled on the hybrid idea – much as I like the idea of going for the best, I think I would have scared my poor ultra-novice self with a proper dSLR already (cost and looking like a twit posing with full-on ‘gear’ and zero clue ;)). Besides, the taking up photography more seriously goal is still ‘some day’, so I reckon I’ll get at least 3 years out of this next one – and it won’t exactly go wrong even after that. Then, hopefully, I’ll know a fair bit more about taking pictures, and feel justified in an even better camera! :)
edit
Oooh, but isn’t it just pretty?! And far, far less intimidating than some of the others. I think I’ve researched the dSLR out of my system enough – hurrah! :)

You’d think having a professional photographer as one of my best mates would have made this goal somewhat easier – and I suspect it will, once I decide at least roughly what I want!!
I suppose the problem is I’m a bit too much of a novice, but want to buy something reasonably future-proof (in terms of my skill; you can’t beat technology!). So, me being me, I kind of had it in my head that I wanted a digital SLR, since that’s what all the cool kids want ;) However, yesterday I was pointed in the direction of a ‘hybrid’ – “You don’t want to have to lug all the bits of kit around, like me”, says friend in question. Which makes sense. And he knows I’m just starting out, so I imagine there might be an element of persuading a new driver to start with a fiesta, not ferrari.
But, hmm. Now I don’t know! O.o
So, all ye great and wonderous 43T photographers – advise me, please!! I’ve written here about what I want to get out of photography; the point-n-click holiday shots is a given, but I guess I’m worried a ‘hybrid’ (heck, I don’t even know what that means!) is just going to be a posher version of what I already have, and limit my future imaginings of doing cool’n’funky arty shots.
What y’all think?
