play drums

When I was little a friend taught me to play the drums, of course since I was too young I played horrible. I’ve been thinking for a while that I should play the drums, even if it someone else’s drum, I remember it was fun.

A drummer buddy of mine gave me an old kit that he had laying around. We spent the day cleaning the shit out of it and I bought all new drum heads, a couple stands, etc. Sure is pretty now. I even cleaned up my old kit and brought it over to a buddy’s house for jam sessions.

Not even a few weeks after I decided to really get back into drumming, I found out that I have tendinitis. This greatly effects my ability to play. I have pain (mostly on my right side) in my fingers, wrist, forearm, elbow, etc. My fingers were at one point so swollen that I could barely make a fist:( Had to cancel drum lessons and put a lot of things ‘on hold’.

I’m feeling better now though. I’ve been taking it easy for a while now and I feel like I can slllowly start to practice again. With an emphasis on slllowly. Don’t want to end up where I was a few months ago.

I’m headed back to school after a long absence and had this crazy idea that maybe I should try out for the drum line. I played percussion in highschool so why the hell not.

I like to jump in behind the drum kit at band practise sometimes, I feel like I belong there, it suits me so well. I’m taking lessons with a friend’s girlfriend this summer and I’m so excited to play a new instrument and even more excited to have some fun!

My wrist injury is healing well and I should be able to move forward on this goal soon !!!

I have bad wrist injury and the pain is delaying me buying any drums. I fear the pain my be never fully leave and drumming may make it worse. I will ask the Doc about it the next time I see him.

My pops plays the drums and is very good so I’m hoping his skills will rub off on me :)

I’ve got a drum machine and I use FL studio for beats sometimes, but it never sounds real enough. I’ve been in bands before but none of them ever end up going in a musical direction I can follow. I have my own ideas for music that I want to create, and you know what they say – ‘If you want something done right, do it yourself.’

I’ve wanted to learn drums for a long time. Maybe I can do it soon, just gotta obtain a trap set…

kinda hard when you don’t have your own drum set isn’t it? i don’t really have the money or space. & my only drummer friend slash teacher is off touring with his band all the time now. in the meantime i’ve discovered the joys of playing a cajon & am thinking about getting one. definitely have space for one of these! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cajon

i play guitar, but ive always want to learn drums..even if its just for one or two songs. gotta love banging those snares ;)
