elizabethmerchant loves to do lots of stuff
I had a few friends over last week and this week my daughter came for a visit and brought 3 friends and we had one of those wonderful two or three hour dinners. Love them.
How I did it: My girl friends and I went to Meijer to pick up ingredients. We decided on a cultural theme and to make everything from scratch. We cooked up some foods from Mexico, Armenia, and France, and invited over our guy friends to eat (but only if they dressed up). Before they got there, we changed into our dresses and set the table with some fancy glasses and dishes, and when they arrived we dug in! It was a LOT of fun. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I decided to have a dinner party themed around my travels in Central America. I had to cook for a Muslim and Jew (no pork), vegetarian (no meat at all), and someone with a ton of food allergies (no citrus, onion, and especially no wheat). While I didn't make every part of the meal edible by everyone, there was something for everyone. I made fajitas (Mexico, both vegetarian and beef), pok chuk (a traditional Yucatecan pork dish), rundon (A… Read how I did it…
How I did it: First of all, I planned what I was comfortable cooking, and checked with my guests what they would and wouldn't eat.I then checked out my cookbooks and the internet for recipes. When the day came, I went food shopping and had an open mind in the kitchen! Read how I did it…

Didn’t do the open house, but have good friends coming for dinner next week…and then plan to try to get back into entertaining casually.
Shannon is hoping and dreaming
Dining room table (my dream one, see other entry)is in place. I got an 8 place setting for 50% off in white (versatile)about a month ago. I picked up a silverware set that wasn’t used (their friend got it at their wedding) at a garage sale for $20. I looked it up online and normally it would cost $25 for 5 pieces. I got 40 pieces for $20!
My guest list is made. Now I need a menu and a date! Oh and plan to make it special. Martha Stewart will come in handy for that. :)

My friends have gotten way too caught up in having fancy parties. I’m going to start having some dinner parties that will be more in line with my old “student style.” That should free us up. I’ll start with my 8 week open house from the spring cure in May.
I have ideas for recipes and ideas for who to ask, just need to find a date and do it!
Failing that, even just cooking a meal for my housemates would be nice…
just need to figure out another couple to invite and then I can work on the details of this goal. I hope I can figure it out soon.
:)
Mucho fun if this works out…... the suspense is going to be AWESOME!
