I want to be a Project Manager at my company. I have been here almost 2 years and I believe that I will be promoted this year to Assistant Project Manager. There are some things I need to do to get there: TRAINING and working on site. I plan on doing these 2 things this year. I am a single mom and I alone will make everything the way it should be for me and my kids.

Since beginning work at my current company I have only really wokred as a developement engineer but have more recently been given the opportunity to explore other fields in my workplace. I have taken the lead on a small project and semi managed another in collaboration with an affiliate.
Project management seems like an excellent goal to persue seeing as you get involved in every aspect from concepting right through to pass off with constant liason between the customer and every department.
Excellent for someone like myself who knows a little about a lot. If you’ve had an assortment of jobs in the past, it’s actually a good thing for this field. I am not PMP certified; you can find work as a project manager that doesn’t require the certification. In fact, I would say experience is best before persuing the PMP.
The one tip I would give: volunteer to help or manage any project at your workplace, school, or organization. It’s good experience to a. see if you enjoy this line of work, b. get a foundation for managing projects, and c. can be a good stepping stone towards getting an official title.
I will apply for a project manager position at work once I get my PMP certification. It shouldn’t be too hard to get that position…
