Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

lifeisnottobewastedToday is the day

I’ve decided that this is what I’m doing on Thursday 4/3/2008 and I will cross this off before my 5pm class this afternoon. I have a religion paper due today, 2 past due communications assignments, 2 past due communications checkpoints and a 3rd communications assignment due tomorrow. I’ve got 7 hours. Ready? Set… 6 years ago

Thomas HollowayKeeping the distractions on hold

It’s not so much that there are distractions as much as they immediately impede progress. So whenever I find myself distracted and working on something else more interesting, I will jot down a few notes about whatever the idea or addition was and then I post that note somewhere. It helps to come to 43things and write in something I want to do. It’s off my mind and I know I’ll get back to doing it once I finish more important things like homework. :P 7 years ago

I finally finished all the assignments that I procrastinated doing. The end result: I graduated with a Masters in Library Science. Just barely… 7 years ago

Instead of rushing through a bunch of old homework (not really viable, since the solutions have all been posted), I did a little “bonus final” assigned by my prof. A great review of the material, shook out two major gaps in my understanding, and best of all, I’m DONE!

Now I can spend my Christmas break inventing 100 rock band names for no reason! 8 years ago

apteryxThanksgiving break

I’m going 800 miles south, to San Diego, for the whole Thanksgiving week. Sun, warmth, quiet, a change of environment. A perfect opportunity to catch up on Abstract Algebra. 8 years ago

Anna LunaThis was it!

For a long time. And I had fun and learned some things about myself and the world while I did it. A win-win situation. I am finally done! I already went out for drinks with my friend. Now I just have to wait to Saturday to graduate so I can feel totally officially done. 8 years ago
