Required learning for anyone who is serious about computer programming, but yuck, what a crappy language.
I have used C/C++ in the past. Currently I work as a Perl Developer. I always wanted to be a C++ person, I think it takes a lot of brain to be good at it. I want to be really really good at it.
Oh yeah, this was the first thing that taught me how much more important ‘planning’ was compared to actual ‘coding’. I also find the experience quite unique. There were lots of crash and burn, but I really feel good after I manage to pass them.
Well, I learned what it takes, and I’m not going further. A semester of C++ was fascinating, but I don’t think I have what it takes to pursue programming to completion.
I did a project in C in April/May, so my familarity with the language is growing.
Learn C/C++ while doing all your work under Linux. Your development tools will be more convenient and the other skills you gain are incredibly valuable.
without C/C++, it’s THAT much harder to learn, scratch that, to understand any programming.
I was lucky I got started in high school, and continued throughout college.
