unless I could count making the cheesecake. yes, that is culinary art.
Perhaps I will do two things today to make up for my having missed yesterday.
It was so great to see the new addition to the Portland art museum. I loved the contemporary section—why do I love contemporary art so much but aspire to be a plein art artist? I don’t know! Maybe it is because all art just makes my heart sing.
I love art.
great article where a photographer got famous actors to act out certain situations and he took stills of them. Beautiful!
This is the Columbia Gorge Hotel. I got kudos from the instructor for composition and values on this one. For whatever reason I do a better painting when it incorporates man-made structures instead of landscape only. sigh. I struggle with the distance/vista thing which is why I was repeating the workshop. I have all my notes so I will make a concerted effort to learn how to cool things off as they recede. It seemed as I walked around to see the other landscapes they all “got it” so much better than I did..but that is alright, I have something to shoot for.
I watched the new Richard Schmid dvd that I bought from eBay yesterday. What a painter!
but I’m just not going to worry about it. He switched the day so that he demo-ed in the afternoon and that is when I had to leave. Oh well. It was a great workshop and I learned a lot. I’m going to really study the Carlson landscape book next.
One thing for sure that I learned is that I have not been paying enough attention to the fundamentals of art. You know..things like the entrances and exits of a painting. Things like making CERTAIN the distance is blued and grayed down. All these things have to be clear in your head as you tackle an on site painting.
I’m glad I got to go to as much of the workshop as I could. He is a fabulous teacher!
I can only stay 1/2 day because I have to come back to town to see the lawyer (drat!) but at least I will get to see one more demo (I think). Yesterdays demo really was a great one.
The instructor (Kenn Backhaus) really lives and breathes art. No wonder he is so great at it! He talks about art non stop from dusk to dawn. I am so glad I got to repeat this!
I did a painting today that I was happy with..that has never happened before in either workshop so I was really pleased! Tomorrow is the final day.
