-I will enjoy telling people what i think on a particular subject
-I will be sensitive to other’s reaction to what i say
-I will talk with my hands
-I will look people in the eyes when talking to them (not all the time though)
-I will be animated in conversation
-I will tell people what i learned so they can benefit too

-I will try to explain complicated idea or complex piece of equipment in fairly simple terms
-I wish or will help others to understand things as clearly as i do
-I will keep my cool under pressure
-I will “get up on the soapbox” when talking about a topic or cause that is important to me
-I will invoke a little bit of a cheerleader in me
-I will feel proud to know that things turned out well for someone who took my advice in handling situations.
-After meetings, or events, I will summarize what has been said, or what happened.
-I will sing and act more often.

listening requires 3 sets of skills:
1)Attending:body posture and motion; eye contact; nondistracting enviroment

2)following: door openers; minimal encouragers; infrequent questions; attentive silence.

3)Reflecting skills: paraphasing; reflecting feelings and meanings; summative reflection.

Communication pays off everywhere you go:
-influence and motivate others, strentheing your leadership position (not that i want to but might be helpful whenever the time comes)

-cement relationship (okay…relationships are a good thing)

-build your reputation as an intelligent, interesting person (have you seen idiocracy :D)

-clarify your ideas and information to other (oh yeah, I could use this very much)

-promote your company and its products or services (and thus promote yourself)

-advance your career and earn financial rewards (another perk)

- a typical person of varied occupation backgrounds show that 70% of the waking moments were spent in communication. breaking it down to: 9% writing, 16% reading, 30% talking, 45% listening.

-it is important to listen effectively b/c it is one of the great factors/influence that determines your skills or lack of.

-few people are good listeners. research shows that 75% of oral communication is ignore, misunderstood, or quickly forgotten.

-Jesus knew this best; it is why he said: “Thou hearest in thy one ear but the other thou has closed”

Emperor Federick, the 13th century ruler of the Holy Roman Empire, wanted to know what the language had been spoken at the birth of mankind in the Garden of Eden. Was it Hebrew, Greek, or Latin? He ordered an experiement in which the original circumstances would be re-created as closely as possible. A group of infants were to be isolated from hearing human speech from the moment of birth untill they spoke their language. The babies were to be raised by nurses who were strictly charged to maintain complete silence when with the babies. All of the conditions of the experiment were successfully carried out. The result? Everyone of the babies died. The lack of communication is often toxic and can be lethal.

I think i will try to avoid that silent treatment from now on unless of course i want to die.

I think bad communication is a contributing factor and is mainly the culprit behind my lack of a social life. Now, I am sure it will improve if I just stay focus and rectify this issue through learning and pragmatism.
