I'm so glad I have smart friends 8 months ago

There are so many misconceptions I’ve had about politics that I didn’t know before. I know it probably annoys my friend Scott slightly but he’s the more knowledgable one so he gets the questions, lol.

The more I learn, the more I see that once you get into it, politics isn’t quite as hard to understand as it seems. I also feel so stupid for being so clueless this long.

But still lurking though. It’s called crossfire or whatnot. I was thinking of going to just a liberal forum but I like listening to the opinions and finding out the reasons behind them on the other side of the fence as well. Helps me to learn and understand more.

I must say though that I’m not sure where to begin, I never knew how very very little I know about politics. So that is why I’m still lurking on the forums. Kind of afraid to write anything, lol. There’s just so many different issues and topics that politics cover that I know nothing about, it’s somewhat mind boggeling.

Oh well, guess I should read up on some of them or find one I’m more familiar with and then treat it like a pool and introduce myself and dive right in.

of joining a forum that’s really political. Besides reading the newspaper and stuffs, maybe if I started getting interactive and talking with people it would help me learn more about politics and become more politically aware.

2007 federal election 2 years ago

While I haven’t been reading too much about the upcoming election, I have been paying more attention to things, and makng an effort to find out about stuff that I don’t necessarily understand.

For instance, I now know how my vote will be best utilised in my local electorate and how my preferences will work in the upper house. It is quite a good feeling knowing you will turn up to the ballot box with clear reasons as to why you are voting a particular way.

I am in John Howard’s local electorate, and very excited about having the opportunity to oust him there!

Watched the You Tube Democratic debate last week…this counts, right…

reminder : ) to myself 2 years ago

Sometimes I wish I read/watched more international type media coverage over the war in Iraq. Though I am conservative, I am sick of biased information seeping into the cracks of our main sources of media here in America. Fox news comes to mind, in particular. It is odd because unless there is actually a bill pending in the house, or something like a “time-cap” on our soldiers in Iraq has just been vetoed, there really isn’t steady coverage.

We are blessed because we live in a free nation that keeps everyday life attainable for all who live within America’s boundaries. War does not stop our economy, our families, our vacations, or our educations. It should, however, take precedent in our hearts. It scares me that people here generally do not feel like we are at war. Well, we are. Yes- we may be able to enjoy the comforts of our lifestyles just as before, but I think that this cause has taken a backseat in people’s minds as September 11. 2001 crawls farther and more distant from our memories.

News Source 3 years ago

If you’re looking for a good, unbiased, humanitarian / disaster news source I suggest http://www.alertnet.org/. It’s a Reuters site which tends to be very factual and to the point. It covers a very wide array of critical and dynamic topics as well as giving links to the history of each article.
