Signed up for audible.com today and downloaded a few books. I’m going to try to listen to atleast one each month.
How to start using audio books during my drive time
How I did it: I signed up for audible and searched for some books that I like. Audible is really good because you can download books and burn them to cd. The first book I did was Leadership and Self Deception, which I would really recommend. I'm on Book #3 now.

I drive nearly 3 hours a day to and from work, so I have plenty of time. Now to find some audiobooks that I am interested in.
catherine's daughter hopes all will enjoy the Christmas season.
great way to catch up on “reading” and better than listening to music all the time or talk radio.
I haven’t listened to an audio book in awhile since I work closer to home now.
_Belle_ is feeling much better now! I'm divorced! yay
I love this. I have learned a lot doing this and it helps break the monotony of long drives. I also prefer it to the radio because I can’t stand all the commercials.
I’ve started a beginners course of learning Mandarin during my commute to work.
No if I could just learn rather than decide on the driving style of others I might start to learn something.
....I listened to about 4 hours on Greek myths the other day. It was very interesting. I think I have mad cow…..that has to be it….I am not old enough to be going senile…but I seem to have forgotten most of this type of stuff that I learned when I was younger. The audio books would give a quick synopsis of a god or hero and then go on to another. It was narrated by 3 or 4 different people so it so it did not get monotonous.
I recently started a job where I drive a lot—sometimes 5 or six hours in a day. Audiobooks have stopped the activity from being a chore and instead made it something I look forward to (except for thinking about the cost of gas and contribution to global warming).
I download my books from www.audible.com and put them on my iPod (although I’ve used other MP3 players with it) and then hook it into my car stereo through a tape adapter, which seems to work best from everything I’ve read.
Some thoughts on this goal? Start with a book that you would enjoy reading first—a genre that you are comfortable with, etc. If you love classics, start there, but if you don’t, chances are you won’t like them in an audio format either. Or maybe you will! But I’d give the new format a chance with something you like first!
Also, if multi-hour books seem daunting at first, you should see if there are any podcasts out there that interest you online (the iTunes store has a whole section on them)—most of them are free, you can find one on most any subject, and they can be a little more digestible at an hour or so in length than some books that can run for days…
Good luck!
Penguin audio books – 6 cds. I’m through cd 1 in just a few days. Fantastic reader, enthralling. Crime & Punishment is next. That drive time, even around town, adds up, and the narrative washes over you. Being read to is a pleasure unlike others, recalling a sense of truly belonging, safety, family, intrigue. For me: narnia, middle earth memories…
I got one now i just need to put it in and turn it on and really listen to it and finish it.
