So I was feeling good this afternoon, what with getting a job for the summer and all, and I was kinda smarting from the kick in the ass that melb100 gave me on this goal over the weekend, and it’s a beautiful day in scenic Flagstaff, so when I got home I decided that there really is no time like the present, and I went and took a walk in the woods. I really need to do this more often, because it’s kind of lovely, and there are a lot of woods around here, and mountains, and all sorts of craziness. Nature, like.
And even though I drink like a fish and smoke like a chimney and live at 8000 feet above sea level, it turns out that my lungs and my body can totally handle the occasional walk in the woods (or the mountains—the woods are the mountains up here, and the mountains the woods), it seems. As with so many things, it’s really largely a matter of conquering the initial inertia.
I dunno. I think my success with this goal might indeed lead me to do more of this getting out into nature thing. I understand that the Mount Elden Lookout is cool, and Boulder Park is just up the road, and I’ve only explored the periphery of that. For that matter, there’s the Grand Canyon only about eighty miles up the road (different road, but actually the one I live on), and I’ve always meant to hike down to the bottom.
Of course, I might be getting ahead of myself. Hee. Anyway. It’s all little steps. And this was a good little step, today. Thanks for the kick in the ass, Melb!
