At the urging of my mother, I began reading “The Gunslinger”, the first part of seven from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series of books, about a week ago. I was immediately drawn into the story and am now almost ready to began the second book entitled “The Drawing of the Three”. From what I have heard, the quality of writing improves significantly from the second book onward, and if this is the case I definitely anticipate finishing the series at some point in the future – although considering the sheer length of the story it will likely take a considerable amount of time.
How to read the Dark Tower Series
How I did it: Ka is a wheel that is always turning.
Lessons & tips: Pick it up and let Ka take you where it may with it... (I say true and may we all say thankya!)

For Gods sake though, the ending is so bad, it’s such a shame, and King recognises that the end of the series shouldn’t actually happen. The book and it’s characters should live on infinitely… Just don’t get too excited, the previous books are fantastic, just the last one.. :S
X24 just got seasons 1&2 of The Office! Yay!
Stephen King has been one of my idols for roughly 20 years. His novels got me through junior high. I’ve read darn near everything he wrote. Yet the Dark TOwer series eludes me.
I finally cracked down and bought the first three books. He states in his intro that his two primary influences were “Lord of the Rings” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” “Once Upon a Time in the West” is my all-time favorite western, and “The Gunslinger” is straight out that whole world.
So far I have read the first chapter and got through Chapter 2’s explanation of how Jake got to the Way Station.
I should note that I read “The Talisman” when I was fifteen. One of my favorite books ever. I’m very curious to see what similarities there are between that and this series.
im over half-way finished with The Waste Lands, its so good! its like an awesome movie and i cant stop watching! The Gunslinger and The Drawing Of The Three were very cool too!! thats why i MUST finish all seven books!!!
andmust’ve totally forgotten about thisgoal.I started reading these cat mysteries that I love again and have neglected the King;).I promise to order the first one as soon as I get thru my cat books (which won’t take long;they take a day or two to read when I take my time/4-6hrs if I take no breaks).I’ve already read 7/8 of them and there aren’t more than 20.This series is supposed to be the opus and center of King’s early work..and I have got tostop putting it off.
Dark Tower will be my summer read.I promise.
I finished The Gunslinger a couple days ago. At first, I wasn’t too impressed and had trouble keeping going. But I thoroughly enjoyed the last 50 pages or so, especially the very end. The atmosphere of the book was delicious. I can’t wait to start The Drawing of the Three!
I love it when authors develop this whole universe that all their works fit into. Isaac Asimov did it so extensively that he even crafted a massive timeline that all his books fit on. I like Stephen King, but I wasn’t particularly interested in reading the Dark Tower series until I read Insomnia. King introduced (to me at least) some of the major characters in the Dark Tower series in that book, and now I’m really interested. I haven’t started yet, but I already have the first book.
to read this series.I’m going to look for and get the first book after I finish “Black House”.Happy reading!
