I have been out of school for a dozen years, and been a stay-home mom for a very long time. Now as my youngest kid started preschool, I am thinking of becoming a CPA.
I took accounting courses in local community college to fulfill the requirement, since my degree was in Math. I should have the 24 credit units that is required by CA by the end of this year. However, I am start having doubts about this.
Is it true that one can learn everything that one needs to know for the exam from one of those CPA reviews? If it is true, which review is good?
It is going to be a serious and major commitment to pass the exam. My husband and families are very supportive, but I’m afraid I will waste the time and fail them. I am asking myself am I not crazy to want to try this?

The tests are hard but definitely worth it. I just passed REG (my last section to pass) and now have to wait a half year until I get a year of experience. I used Roger test review and he is amazing. Good luck on anyone who is struggling through fund accounting:)

On January 5, 2009, I started studying for the FAR section of the CPA exam. After studying for a recommended 160 hours, I sat for the FAR section on February 23, 2009. I thought the exam was quite challenging but the material was fair. I have not received my results back but I have started studying for the audit section in which I take on April 13, 2009. I have used the Becker Review for both sections but I felt Becker focused too much on topics that were not on the exam. Once I sit for the Audit section, I am going to re-assess whether Becker is the solution for me. Are there any recommendations?

I’ve just spent over an hour trying to decide what materials to use to review. Its so hard to know which are most comprehensive/easiest to understand. Prices range a lot too; its hard to know if its worth it for the ones that cost twice as much. I cant help thinking my time would be better spent actually studying for the exam! What needs to be from this year? There is so much stuff on ebay, but I dont know if its a waste of money to buy outdated material, or a waste to spend crazy amounts for practically the same material with a 2009 stamp on the front.
Well at least I’ve got the ball rolling. Sending my application in as soon as I get the signatures from my references.

Now that I’m on the IRS list of Tax Pros, it doesn’t seem like enough :(

So this is really important to me, but for different reasons than it might be for other accountants. I don’t want to work in public accounting, I don’t want to work until midnight from January to April. I want to improve small businesses through my current company. I believe that having my CPA will give me a good grasp on how to be a better resource to my current clients.

I passed AUD

I took the test in July and did not get my results until September. It was all worth the wait as I passed. I take REG in two weeks. I am not feeling as confident about this one. I found that answering as many study questions as possible to be of the greatest help. I also liked the flashcards. I could carry them with me anywhere.

I have passed three parts. One more to go. It is a very hard goal but worthwhile. I will be appearing for Audit section in Jan.

I want to take the test as soon as possible. I want to find a job that will encourage me to become certified and give me the appropriate work experience.
