My dad is flying from Tennessee to South Texas, to help me fly with the two girls to Denver, while my husband drives the moving van to Denver. We depart July 14. My husband has accepted a tenure-track teaching position in Philosophy there. For many years now, we’ve agreed that we’d go where ever the better job offer is. So, off we go. Good bye Texas.

I was so happy that I cried as I passed over the state line. I might go back to visit but never to live there.

My husband was offered a tenure-track position at a seminary in Denver. He accepted the offer yesterday and mailed the paperwork back to them. Looks like we’re moving to the Denver area this summer. I’ll check this goal off the list once we’ve actually moved.

As said already, my dad became a traitor and a heretic for his crimes. BUT… if I can hope, I COULD move to Maryland.
I miss the good news… no homicide, no OMFG IT’S SNOWING RUN AWAY, good community, and the power didn’t go out as much.
But here… it’s a bitch. I want out and want it done in 2009.
Got any ideas?

My husband and I have finally moved out of Texas. My only regret is that my children chose to stay and I left some really special friends.

The first major job posting for the 2008-09 academic year is out. Several hundred positions were posted. At this point in time, I’m applying for tenure-track positions and post-doc fellowships. Visiting professorships will be the last option. I’ve mailed 34 applications for my husband. Not sure how many of mine I’ve mailed. We’ll see what comes.
Next wave of job postings comes in November.

Can’t stand the heat down here. Doesn’t help that it’s over 90 degrees three quarters of the year. Am allergic to anything that moves here, to use the words of my allergist.
But, I’m not a “transplant” (don’t know why the terminology is popular down here) that is out to make life here difficult, if not impossible. I’ve made friends here, and I’m trying to find things to do.
I can just imagine a more ideal living place, where the weather conditions are better and we are closer to family.

I firmly believe the Lord wanted us to stay here for one more year. So, here we are. For more reasons than one, but amongst them, is we’re here to help our church. My husband’s coordinating a team to help the youth and he’s also leading music praise and worship. I’m teaching an adult Sunday school class and singing in the music team. We’re also connecting with various people, which would otherwise not be possible if we were no longer living here.
But, I REALLY want to gone by this time next year. It will be time to move on.

I did it very quickly. Within two weeks I’d bought a plane ticket and packed my life. I not only moved out of Texas, I moved out of the U.S. I miss aspects, but at least I’m not having heat strokes or enduring the crazy storms. I’m finding things I really like about England despite missing the bluebonnets like crazy…not to mention my family and friends.
