samiam89 is embracing a new day with a new attitude
I sent out an email, got great responses and set the date for the May book club!
How I did it: I wanted to start a book club for people my own age (20-something) so I put an ad up on craigslist under the group section asking for participants in a "book club for 20-somethings." After weeding out the crazies (I asked for photos and background information to help me out), I invited the six people who seemed the best fit to meet at a coffee shop to talk over the book club idea and choose our first book. Now our club has 9 members, we m… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I just picked the book and invited several friends to join me in reading it and discussing. Both were enthusiastic. I figure it is a good way to get to know them better and use one another as a support system. I selected a rather heavy book that requires honest and deliberate contemplation. We all get too busy and can go weeks without serious reflection on life and where we are going. Read how I did it…

the number of members will be limited to 5. it is a practical question: i want everybody to have the chance to discuss, share thoughts and have a full attention on what we are doing. i received one positive answear with a couple of ideas: 1) our first meeting place 2) dramatic readings.
i just sent one more invitation (yes, i’m still shy about it) today. this will be a great person to have around. he will be a valuable addition to the group. fingers crossed!

the idea of a club book grew in me slowly. i almost didn’t noticed anything but my need to read, share and evolve is urgent! so i decided to begin. tonight i listed some people amongst friends who might be interested on those plans… i’m really anxious about it and sent three invitations at once. i do hope for a positive response.
emilywaugh is starting her 43 things list.
I have formed my book club, but we have not yet met. The first meet up is in February for our first book.
Yay!!
jamieleee this is the first day of my life..
i started a book club online for college students..i can’t wait to get started :) I already have 2 other girls in it. always room for more :)
A girl from work and I had our first meeting last week. We’re reading “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.” We haven’t finished the book yet as we’re both pretty busy with teaching, grad school, etc. We’re meeting in sections each week rather than doing a whole book and meeting once a month. Our goal is to talk it up and get others involved.

My girlfriends and I started a book club after reading the twilight series. We realized we all we reading them and wanted to share and we should take such an antisocial hobby and make it an excuse to spend more time together. We had our first official meeting last week where we discussed how we were going to run this thing and we chose to read Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire stories in honor of the new HBO series Trublood. We’re starting with Dead Until Dark starting September 1st. We’ll be announcing the discussion date once we have an idea of how quickly we’ll finish it. I’m assuming we’ll all read it in a week or two. If you’re interested in joining, look us up on Google Groups or Myspace! You can participate in the discussions when announced and read with us. However, to be an official member of the book club you must read all the books within the deadline and attend all meetings. Unofficial members are always welcome through our online forums! Happy Reading!
I love to read and am always reading something. But recently I’ve thought maybe I would get more out of books I read if I had a group of people to discuss it with. My boyfriend wants no part in it. (i think it’s the whole socializing thing he’s against) anyway, I think with my own rules, it would be fun… Wine and book reading, excellent combination.
So far I have one friend at work interested, so i’m gonna go from there.
I really enjoy reading and want to be in a book club. My sister lives in california and says it is so fun. I moved “down the bayou” last year and the only people I really know is people associated with my sons friends, aftercare or school. I think this is a good way to make friends and have time to socialize with other people other then my husband, son or co-workers. I have know idea how to do it but seems fun.
