shaped and painted like the Death Star. Awesome, huh? Fun and not too hard!
How I did it: we (my three friends and I) made it out of rolls of toiletpaper and carton with lots of glue and adhesive tape. and some wine.
Lessons & tips: make sure you have enough tape. and a good scissor
Resources: tape. and creative friends

I think I worked on it every night all week! Maybe I could have found shortcuts like starting with a box instead of making the entire thing out of paper mache… but I think the paper mache was probably more satisfying to destroy. Anyway, my friend had a ball at her baby shower and the whole pinata thing was a big success.
You may not be able to tell from the picture, but the pinata is shaped like the book “What to expect when you’re expecting,” which my friend apparently didn’t find reassuring at all and wanted to hit with a bat. Thus the pinata idea was born.
And I promise you there won’t be any pink or blue on it.

I did this for my daughters 1st Birthday and I was so sure I was going to mess it up and that it wasn’t going to turn out. I don’t have a great deal of confidence when it comes to trying new things and I totally expected it to break open after the first whack but to my surprise and delight it held together. I got detailed instructions from my sister who then saved the day further when I ran out of time to paint and decorate it. I will definitely do this again. I ended up buying one for her 2nd Birthday, the pull string kind, and it was fun but not nearly as satisfying and rewarding. I will do this for my Baby Boys first Birthday and probably for as long as they enjoy it.

I think this would be a really fun thing to do for my children’s birthdays. Maybe I could make one for my birthday in March, to delight and thrill my “inner child.” Besides, why should the children have all the fun????
