I’ve enrolled in school as a starting point for my new career. I’ve been an auditor for the last 10 years. I don’t want to do it for the rest of my life. I’ve decided to go to nursing school.
People doing this are also doing these things:

I will retire in about 10 years. I want to spend those years to learn a new skill or profession. One, just for the stimulation of doing so, and second, in case I want to work longer.
I am looking at the things that I really enjoy and my current skills and trying to see how they might blend together towards a new career.
I am a biological scientist but currently heading a Strategic Marketing Group. I love tennis, web design, photography and travel. I plan to improve my Spanish.
Any ideas on how to blend these skills and likes into a career??
Start a new career. New direct study in my new potential career.
OK, I’ve seen about the finances. We’re okay to go ahead if we need to, but… I have a friend who works in the IT business, so he looked over the package I was going for and didn’t rate it. I’m going to look into a couple of basic course from the local college, the idea being I’m starting, I can find out if I have the apptitude, and I won’t be investing blind.
Next step, college. Overtime, here I come.
I am ending an old job soon, but need to replace it with another job, or preferably, a new career. I have never been one of those people you could pigeonhole into a specific job. I am more of the type to try different things. I was obligated to doing a job I didn’t enjoy for 20 years in order to gain the benefits and a pension, which I am thankful for, but now it’s time for a positive change.
Now that I am older, I would like to try something different in my approach to work. I would like to try getting a job closer to what I enjoy in life. I enjoy taking pictures, Apple Macintosh computers (working with, raving about), graphic design, editing design, dogs, riding bicycles and motorcycles, walking, running, working out with weights, and travel. I also love to read, write, and multimedia. I play guitar and piano, plus sing. How do I incorporate most of these likes into a diverse job?
I feel that this is the way to go. I’m writing this just to keep this goal moving more than anything else. I have no real certainty on the eventual outcome of this, BUT, if I don’t do it, I will be in the same position years from now so I’m going to take a chance. I need to speak with Mark, the IT training man, and make sure the family is behind me. Then I’ve got to find the finances and it’s a go. Thankyou for taking an interest in a rather vauge entry and I’ll add more as it evolves. I would say middle of next week.
Right, I spoke to learndirect at the jobcenter, spoke to Parish, very helpful. Got a few pointers to look at and a couple of websites to research. The IT route is still looking good but I need to establish demand in my area. So, I now need to confirm the route I’m heading down. By the end of this week hopefully.
Okay, I’m 37, (38 in June) and although I’m in a stable job and bringing in the best wage to date, I’m not happy and want more.I like the work I’m in (manufacturing), and I’m good at it. I don’t like the enviroment (chemicals and dust), the prospects of promotion, or the lack of control I have over them.
I am going to get another career, in computing. A clean enviroment, still hands on, still challenging, but a cleaner environment and more autonomy. Step 1. Get on course. Gonna have to raise some money. I’ll let you know.
