Glue problems
i’m trying to make complete geisha or rather maiko set and now i have 2 pieces of hanagushi, 2 hanakanzashi and many other kanzashi. I use hot glue and it works quite well but i want to make REAL rice glue. Anyone know how to do it??? I made one yesterday but unfortunately… it doesn’t work! I don’t know why but i’m not gonna give up!
This is a helpful? tutorial, you may know it but if not it is very useful instruction how to make elementary petals ;)

i’ve been making kanzashi flowers for a few years now. i’ve never used rice glue before, i keep meaning to buy or make it. i use e6000 industrial glue for mine, it works fairly good, it just-uh-stinks a bit. that’s one main reason i want to try to use rice glue.
every person that makes these i’m sure develop their own technique that they like best. i use clear thread to sew each petal up, therefore makes it easier to put together as a flower (though it’s more work) and you can shape each petal better before and while you’re gluing it all together.
i’ve made mostly simple ones, never made any full sets like what geisha wear. even though i started a few years ago, i’m just NOW trying to do that, ha!
and if anyone would care to, post photos of what you make! up above is a sample of what i usually make.

OMG! YES! I started making it, I got all the materials and I’ve so far made two flowers. Their pretty good for my first ones too. I so can’t wait to see it finished.

Hmmm…Well I’ve only been looking up info on this. I’ve just recently decided to start this. I admit I’m in love with Japan, even if I’ve never been there. So, far I found out that they can be VERY expensive when looking at BUYING one from the pros. So, makeing one works fine for me. They reange differenty depending on status and season, but usually Geisha only wear these, but that was all in the past. The pros use rice glue to make the fabric stay and very fine silk fabric. Since I’m only making somewhat cheap ones, I’m going to use a light fabric of my choice and still try to find rice glue. I’m currently looking up an easy design to go by. .

Rice paste has been added to the inventory, so now it’s just a matter of cutting the fabric pieces and getting started.

I have tried to make kanzashi (japanese hair ornaments, usually made of fabric) once before and the results weren’t great, but I was using the wrong glue. Now that I’m armed with nice fabric and rice past, I think I can finally get this done. If I’m lucky, it will be just in time for the Cherry Blossom Festival performance.
