Getting Started with Planning 12 months ago

About to clean and throw out lots of stuff for the 45th time. 15 years (4 times a year). It somehow comes around over again. The kids have moved out but the junk accumulations of their stuff, ours, and my old business. Available for storage are shelving, upper rafters and designated areas are established also hope for a dumpster is planned. I have been giving things away to friends, charities, and garbage cans. Makes you feel good BUT still it is hard to get rid of memories you’d want for your grandchildren. Still the cold weather is a small part of procrastination. (yaugh) I have used plans and diagrams in the past which have worked and are now in need of updates, job time is a factoring as well. An added incentive is to STOP naggin wife. Yeah this is a bigger picture (pain).

Appliance, household, electrical and auto parts are included in the mix that contribute into saving dollars. During the last years I have been sorting them out which made available shelf space.

Memories and the idea of your kids wanting what is just that for you or that might suit them in their future is another StUmBlIn BLOCK. My thinking on that is to take a picture, file it, back it up on a disk, alot less space taken again.

It does help me to think of a nightmarish scenario of trying to pack all this shit up and cram it into a small condo or storage facility where I would be throwing money away much like I paying for in my GARAGE now.

There’s still more to clean but made huge progress so counting this as done. :)

I got my car in! 18 months ago

I managed to clear enough space to get my car in the garage this weekend. I’m excited, now that we’ve hit 110 degrees F. Of course, it’s a three car garage with lots of stuff from both my mother-in-law and father-in-law, which means I need to consult with my wife before stuff goes away. But it’s a good start!

everything in its place 18 months ago

built some hangars for garden tools, shuffled around some stuff to clear a way to the cool vintage desk I want to finish staining and then sell, got rid of some jeep parts, etc. Not quite ready yet but maybe by end of week.

disaster zone... 19 months ago

2 engines, one tire, dozens and dozens of Jeep parts, electronics parts, an old desk, old atari games, my raft, pumpkin cart I made, 3 Jeep doors, lots of wood and metal materal, drywall, insulation, loads of landscaping tools, several buckets of old oil. How sad.

I’m in the middle of too many projects, and too much stuff without a place to put it!

it sounds simple. 20 months ago

but it is FULL of my dads things, our old things…just lots of things. it has actually caused resentment by my partner (towards me). spring is here, and once the weather warms up i’m going to tackle the clutter.

It's growing! 20 months ago

I have had the luxury of having a perfectly cleaned out garage before, and I miss it! We used to be able to fit both SUV’s in there, but now I have to walk sideways, between the “stuff,” just to get through. In the past I have hired a “PODS” so I can put the good stuff in a safe, dry place while I root through the tossables. That wound up being an expensive cleaning. Kept the POD over 2 months and had to pay the delivery charge. This year, I’m just not sure where to start. I’m using this as the first step in making myself follow through…..wish me luck!

Had to move and that motivated me to clean out that garage pretty fast. Had a lot of help and ended up paying a professional to get rid of the junk. So I guess I cheated but it’s done.

Clean out my Garage, Initial Entry 22 months ago

I’d like to be able to fit both my car and motorcycle in my garage. I’ve got room in my attic for most of the boxes laying on the garage floor and simply need to take the time to brave the cold temperatures and get it done.
Maybe just for today I’ll set myself a goal of spending 15 minutes out in the garage and making progress.

Aye! Aye! Aye! 2 years ago

I’m not “excited” about this goal but I’d LOVE to have a nice looking garage you could actually park a car in! We just moved here in May and did EXACTLY what we said we wouldn’t- tossed “stuff” in the garage.

I’d like to clean it out and have a garage sale!
