PurpleHeather has both her father and father-in-law in different hospitals right now
They survived the winter more or less intact and with a little pruning the one on the sunny windowsill is starting to sprout new life all over. This will be a great summer watching flowers live on and on. It was so colourful last year.
The north-facing one will need more tlc and perhaps another plant to replace one that died. It was winter after all and we did have snow.

It needs to get WARM so things can GROW. It’s been 65, overcast, and showery for two months now.

Last year I was the only person on my street to do the windowboxes thing. This year? Four more. I sure hope the flower infestation continues to spread down the street..it’s like spreading joy.

One window box has lovely purple flowers in now (surprise surprise) but the other has plants that need to grow more to flower.
I do enjoy this but only once a year! Low maintenance gardening!

They survived the previous winter somehow but I can’t take the window boxes indoors – there just isn’t enough space.
Now I’m back from holiday and can care for them and nurse them through the first few weeks I’m going to do this again.
We have 2 window boxes – one outside the kitchen window (back) and one outside the bathroom window (front).

These geraniums are the bomb. They grow three feet long and flower non-stop. They’re a special variety of geranium called an “alpine.” They grow far far longer than any “ivy” varieties. I’m hooked.

This stuff goes with everything, and looks especially good with geraniums.

Two big window boxes (hayracks..the metal things with the fiber liners) full of alpine geraniums. These grow almost four feet long and hang down below the baskets. They look good with a bunch of bacopa stuffed in between everything. Bacopa is little white flowers that sort of fill in the bottom eight inches of the box. They look good with everything.
Two long green boxes full of “wave” petunias and million bells (kind of like mini petunias) Last year the regular petunias grew almost two feet high and obscured the view from the balcony. (!) This year I’m going with all hanging flowers from all the boxes on the rails. It’s all purple and red and white this year.
For the front I have purple and white petunias for a big blue urn that’s on the front porch.
I have this perpetually damp, shady, cool strip of yard that I ordered a pre-planned “shade garden” for. We’ll see how it goes.
Lastly, I got a bunch of honeysuckle for the trellis that came with the house. This kind is supposed to like damp soil and flower well in partial shade. Here’s hoping! I’d love to be able to cover that trellis with flowers but it only gets sunshine from 3pm on.
Now in the garage: Shovel, rake, hoe, four bags of mulch, two bags of compost. Yay, spring!
