just another overcrowded city 14 months ago

our three-week stay was reduced to ten days due to the scheduling needs of our home exchange partner. perhaps if we’d had a month we’d have been able to explore more and get a different feel for the city, but i’m afraid i was rather disappointed. i remembered it as a bright, clean, friendly place when i was there as a boy, and what i saw of it now was just another north american city, polluted, overcrowded, frequently crumbling, and packed with suvs trying to run you down each time you try to cross the street. the public transit was abysmal and the highways were parking lots, even in the middle of the day. i enjoyed taking a trip and living somewhere else a while, but if you’re looking for a change from the american city, i’m sorry to say that this isn’t it. you can have the same dreary experience at the u.s. city nearest you, and not have to deal with the surly border guards on your way home.

I want to visit Toronto and see a show there

we’ve found someone from toronto who wants to swap houses with us this summer, so it looks like we’ll be there for the first three weeks of august!

sending out feelers 21 months ago

i just wrote several torontoans on homeexchange to say we’re interested in spending time there this summer. we’ll see what comes of it!

the only time I got out of the apartment this time was to eat 2 years ago

actually I’ve said all I want to say. Right?

Well I might as well say something. I went to Young Thailand on the last night it was at its old location (it’s moving ‘way out there’ according to my companion for dinner.) coconut soup with chicken is full of fabulous, and the curry was good.

I also went to an ethiopian restaurant that was very tasty stuff. that was an enjoyable time even though I didn’t talk too much.

There’s also an eating tradition – my last meal before I go shall be at Finn McCool’s, as it was the last place we ate together the last time I was in Toronto. So I suppose that while the chicken tikka masala boxty is quite nice, I shall always regard it with a kind of sadness.

I ate at another restaurant the first day I was there but I can’t remember what it was called. the wine I had there was awful, but the veal was quite nice.

I did it! 2 years ago

I didn’t see much of Toronto, but I did it. I had a very good time. I am going back in march. I am happy.

but 24 days it is…

Toronto = Friends 3 years ago

Toronto is a beautiful city and the area is interesting too. I have been there a few times on business trip but I soon wanted to return for many other reasons. I have very happy memories of my visits to Toronto.

You need to find the chinese restaurants in Scarborough, take Kennedy Road and then around Star street I think, you will find them. The small take-outs serve excellent chineese food and also the dim sum, delicious..

The zoo is not far and fun to visit. You would not expect to find a zoo there.

A nice hotel I would recommend is the Sheraton Toronto East for the people, the food, the rooms, the interior gardens, the lounge for the live music, and the glass elevator. A very pleasant stay for sure.

Walking downtown and shopping can be fun too. Of course, the CN Tower to see the city from above. Not for people afraid of hights.

I would take this opportunity to thank the people working at St-Michael’s Hospital, downtown Toronto for the very good care they took of a friend at the intensive care unit many years ago. Their empathy offered some comfort has we were going through difficult moments. These moments carry sad memories but these people made it somewhat easier. Thank you again.

It is okay to go to around toronto. But i hated toronto itself... 4 years ago

I live in surrey b.c. So I’m use to smog and pollution. But when I went to toronto and Hamilton it was disgusting. When we were heading into both places we couldn’t see it the smog was soooo thick you seriously could not see the town and we were only like 10min away from it. I was soooo grossed out maybe i just went on a bad (really bad) day but non the less it was not cool.

mmm. toronto. 4 years ago

toronto is brilliant!
everything but the rickshaw rides, that is.

go up the cn tower! because they sniff you for bombs before you go in and no life is complete without being sniffed for bombs at least once in your life.
