I’m a member of the GSA at my school. I’m hoping to write a speech and deliver it to the group. I want it to be something that could inspire everybody to make a difference. I’d like to put in some key points, such as how we weren’t around in ‘63 for Martin Luther King Jr.’s movement, but we are part of this, and how different opinions make the world go around, but hate is not an opinion, it’s a disability. Thoughts?
How to fight for civil rights
How I did it: I'm trying to stop "fighting" for or against anything, in my ongoing effort to use more nonviolent, positive language and strategies. Instead, I'm working on my privilege, building positive alternatives, living compassionately, and being here now. I think I used to feel more adversarial, as though a war was going on. Now I feel like humans are moving toward peace very slowly, and I'm serving that goal.

Oh, all inspired and stuff…I forgot to mention that it is sad that I want to do all this but feel like I have to do in “secret” because I am a teacher and can quickly get fired for being gay if I am not careful.
I suppose I might recruit the children…

I recently had a run in with some very negative hateful people and it made me realize that I dont WANT to just sit around and wait for things to be done for me.
I will never understand the argument. Why does my marriage affect you?
You dont know me now, if I get married…what does that do to you?
Why cant you just accept that God loves everyone and you dont have the right nor the power to judge me?
Why do you hide behind the religious bigotry? Is it because without that, you have no argument?
I know I most likely cant change peoples minds about this…but hopefully with everyone pulling together, we can watch our children in the future base their lives on loving…everyone…
Its saddens me this is all built on hate and false information. If it were based on truth, there would be no argument.
i do it every single day. you cant be afraid of all the people that will be against you, you just have to remember you are doing this for yourself.

Victory is sweet:
Mass. Legislature rejects proposed amendment banning gay marriage
I happened to be around the State House this afternoon, and after 45 minutes of being out on the sidewalk with a MassEquality sign and my “Married in Massachusetts” T-shirt I got to go in and hear the tally, and be part of the subsequent celebration. It’s nice to think that I helped contribute a tiny little bit to this victory, and I’ll do so for future ones as well.

My wife and I voted yesterday for Pat Jehlen, who ended up winning the Democratic primary; we also plan to vote for her in the general election in September. And just now, I gave $50 online to MassEquality, to help fund the alliance’s efforts to fight the anti-gay constitutional amendment that will be up for consideration in mid-September.

I also plan to vote next Tuesday for Pat Jehlen, who’s running for the Massachusetts State Senate. Among other things, she’s a staunch supporter of same-sex marriage rights, and will help fight against the anti-gay amendments currently under consideration.
This is something that i feel very strong about – but I don’t think I do anything to support my views. It is easy to criticise others who dont do anything to help other people, but what is it that i do?
I cant put my finger on exactly what it is that stops me, I am still studying so I dont have a lot of cash to donate (I have doubts on how much of donated money actually benefits those who need it – but that is a whole other issue). For me, donating my time seems to be the most beneficial. But where do I go? who do i contact?
This is something that i am going to give some serious thought over the next few days – I really am going to do something (just have to figure out what that something is first)
