I resisted getting an iPod for years, but my son gave me his old one for Christmas. I’ve been populating it and rating songs for the last 4+ months and have finally gone through my entire CD collection.
I’ve got a playlist on my iPod called A List which has all of my 4 and 5 star songs on it. I rate my stongs as follows:
5 stars – A+
4 stars – A, A-
3 stars – B+, B
2 stars – B-, C+
1 star – C, C-
A C- is a song I’ll listen to, but that is lacking in some way. An A+ song is one that I love and that makes me feel someting positive very strongly every time I listen to it.
It’s really cool to listen to my A list on shuffle because I get a great mix of newer music I love with music from the ages I still love.
I’ve learned that I can’t always listen to good music though. I need to find new music and in doing so I definitely hear things I don’t consider to be good. I use pandora.com to discover new music and it has worked wonderfully for me. I’ve learned about lots of new (to me) groups. It’s reawakened my love of music and has inspired me to get as much good music as I can.
I found my loves of music: Indie Rock and 80’s New Wave. I get compliments on my music tastes and I’m introducing my bestfriend Daniel to the two genres. But I’m also well rounded in my tastes. I also like classical, opera, industrial, ska, and a lot others. I’m more open about music and I can jam to almost everything…. except country (yuck!).. (Though Johnny Cash rocks above everything else!!!)
