Really, this is just part of the swimming goal. The only indoor pools in town are at the Y.

But without financial aid. We’ll see if I can manage this expense in my budget. I even worked out today!

Just last week I joined the Y. They were running a special on the membership fees so I got half off, which was a good incentive to join. I think the Y is good not only because I can workout there, but you can take classes for free or if you look at how much you’re paying each month it’s waaaaay less than enrolling in single classes like yoga or pilates or swim classes. Overall I’m pleased.

It depends... 2 years ago

...on your local YMCA chapter. The one where I used to live was terrific. But the one where I live now is lousy. They kept raising their rates and cutting services (or focusing all the dollars on children’s programs). Don’t get me wrong—I don’t hate kids, But it has gotten to the point where our local YMCA is not a good value unless you have kids. The last straw was when they cut out adult lap swimming from 5-7pm (when a lot of people are getting off work) so that kids’ swim lessons and swim team practice could monopolize the pool.

All I’m saying is check out your local chapter before you join and make sure it’s right for you and in line with your priorities. I was looking for a low-cost, convenient fitness center with good hours, so I ended up joining Planet Fitness ($10/month and no contract). They don’t have a pool, but neither did the Y, when I was interested in swimming.

I hope my rant wasn’t too negative—I do hope you find what you’re looking for.

Yep, so far the husband and I have been members for about eight months. He goes far more often than I do, but I hope to change this president soon. The only think I would change about our YMCA is the fact that they don’t have a racquetball court. Though I guess that makes sense, not many people play racquetball any more do they?

is great! I love to work out there and to relax in the pool or hot tub. We’ve been members for over a year now. I highly recommend it!
