save the elephants

Rozie turned 16.
We went to her party.
The news interviewed us on camera. (we were edited out, but that’s cool).
We went to the zoo office and had what I want to remember as a posh exclusive viewing of elephant paintings (we got lucky and got them to open up for us)
We bought some beautiful elephant originals.

And I will post them here.

I also sponsored a “zoo parent” membership for the elephants of the ABQ Biopark on behalf of my classroom as a gift.

I think one of the paintings looks eerily like a Jasper Johns – call me elephant crazy, but I love it.

Anyway, Happy 16th birthday to Rozie the elephant, whose first baby is due next Sept. (and also happy birthday to Neil Young) – a great day for all!

May your trunk always find the tail of your favorite companion…

I’m taking my sons to the zoo today- it’s Rozie’s 16th birthday! We have a card made and we are taking a laminated copy of an article for her 13th birthday that featured pictures of my oldest son participating in her party. Her card says “from an old birthday friend” – Mr. Fenet should come too, of course.

Another baby elephant has been born! Congratulations to the Pittsburgh zoo. Check out the awesome video available today of the adorable baby getting its first bath:

Congratulations to the happy mama!

And my son just started to play the alto saxophone. It looks like a happy trunk! Serendipity!

At the Albuquerque zoo, one of our elephants is having a baby! It will be awhile, because gestation is nearly 2 years, but very exciting. If it isn’t turned around, we won’t have elephants maybe in 20 years- very scary for us elephant lovers.
