How to register with a doctor

How I did it: I checked with my housemates where their doctor's practice was, found it on the map. I then found my NHS card which I had carefully put away somewhere safe I couldn't remember. I also collected one of my recent bills as proof of address and my photo ID. I then turned up at the practice at opening hours, filled out the forms and made an appointment for my check-up.
Lessons & tips: Take advice on which local pratices are good, and ring to check if they're taking new patients.
