    I helped a friend make Tiramisu… we had to grate (shred) lots of chocolate to sprinkle over the top.

    I would have licked all of this melted this chocolate off, but they weren’t my fingers…

    I learned about last night. Bear with me—it may sound strange.

    A traditional Mayan form of hot chocolate involves mixing & heating chocolate, water, & a sweetener (I imagine it would have been from sugar cane) with corn mash. The result: a deliciously thickened nutritious beverage.

    To me it sounds wonderful! Have some with me . . .

    And so we are alone together. You have been giving me that look all day. You call to me..reach out to me.. whispering “Open me.”..”open me.” But I was able to resist you. It wasnt the time before, we werent alone..till now. And now you’ve gotten what you wanted. We are alone.

    I look over and you are sitting there. You havent moved all day. It has been torment seeing you but not being able to come close to you. Now the light catches your box and that glimmer shines bright in my eye.

    First I sit down. Slowly taking you to me. Holding you…feeling your weight. I trace my finger across your name. The raised gloss writing sending my body into nervous anticipation. I slip my nail under the sticker and watch as it breaks with a satisfying snap. Half transparent paper is all there is between us now. You have called to me all day and now i seems you are being coy. Teasing me, making me want you even more. A mass of layers covering you, concealing you from me. But with a swift movement all that is gone. You cannot hide anymore.

    My fingers gracefully poised are hovering over you now. Where to start? It seems a shame to distruct that perfect symmetry before me. A slight hesitation and then I chose my victim. My long nails, prizing you slowly from your bed, raising you to my mouth. You are colder than I thought…I wasnt expecting that..not after the day of heated anticipation between us.

    My lips part and slowly and as softly as I can, I take my firt bite. My teeth breaking through your shell creates a slight crack muffled by the sudden embrace of your interior. As I pull one half of you away, my mouth is exploding with sensations…ones I seem to have forgotten. But now I remember why its so hard to resist you.

    Warmth spreads through my body and sweetness coats my tongue. It spreads further and further around and before I know it I am in a heated frenzy…devouring bite after bite. And then suddenly..a cold sensation runs through me. Im embarrassed. have I done to much? Quick as a flash whats left is covered…hidden. The box looking less like a chest of gold by the minute, is shoved somewhere out of sight…out of mind. Well…for now.

    I guess I should start with my normal 72% Cocoa-mass Belgium. Very dark to the eye, very firm to the teeth, no room for sugar or wax, almost too hard to bite, you concentrate in anticipation on how long it takes for the chocolate to melt in your mouth, you have to let it melt from the warmth of your mouth, feeling the change of texture as it warms, suddenly releasing it’s aroma into your mouth and nose, the tongue suddenly starting to taste, rub your tongue on the roof of your mouth and feel the smooth texture of the fine chocolate, as it coat your taste buds and making it more difficult to taste subtle notes, then the chocolate chemical ecstacy kicks in.
