On Deck: Arizona 13 months ago

Since I’ll be with my family for a whole month this winter, I figured I’d look for a January marathon within road trip distance from home. The Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona Marathon fits the bill, so I signed up last night at the MCM expo to get a discount and a free t-shirt. :)

Now to tell the famiglia that “maybe” is now “definitely” so that we can get a hotel room, register all interested siblings and all that jazz.

California - check! 21 months ago

LA weather was terrific! My time was not so terrific, but I’m glad I finished despite my lack of training this time around. I was making great time through the half and up until mile 15 or so before I felt one of my aches and pains slip into the danger zone. I’m not interested in a stress fracture so I ended up walking the rest of the way from around mile 19. (‘Limping’ might be a better description.) Still, it all averaged out to a finish time that was about 6 minutes worse than my first. Not too shabby.

NOW there are only 48 to go.

just getting started 21 months ago

I just ran my first one last October (Marine Corps) and I’m headed to Los Angeles this weekend. If all goes well, that takes care of Virginia-DC and California. Then only 48 more to go!

Of course, as we all know, you only take one step at a time. I still have 49 to go at the moment.

I don't have to run all these marathons! 22 months ago

I don’t have to run 50 marathons! Just being able to do 1 will suffice.

28 down, 22 to go! 23 months ago

2007 was a productive year : I ran 18 marathons & 3 ultras in total (9 new states & 1 with my sister, who ran her 1st marathon ever)!

    7 down 2 years ago

I’ve only run 8 marathons, but fortunately I found out about the 50 state club during my very first one so I’ve only had one repeat (my home state, Ohio). My first marathon was Air Force in Dayton and I just had to do the Flying Pig last year. My goal is to hit all 50 states before I turn 50 so I’ve got about 12 years to get it done. I’m going to try for 4 each year.

My husband hopes to qualify for Boston this year and plans to do it at the Bay State Marathon in MA. For anyone who has not run one in Wisconsin, I have to highly recommend the Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee the first week of August. It is small, but has excellent crowd support and was my favorite so far.

Here are the ones I’ve run:

    AirForce (Ohio)
    Chicago (Illinois)
    St. Louis (Missouri)
    Flying Pig (Ohio)
    Lakefront (Wisconsin)
    Marine Corps (Virginia)
    Atlanta (Georgia)
    Country Music (Tennessee)
