I would like to learn how to fence 11 months ago

I took a fencing class in college many years ago. My husband gave me a foil, an epee and a sabre. I would very much like to get back into the sport.

I’d like to devote some time to learn this fascinating sport, which allies physical strength, reflexes and strategy.

Graceful yet deadly… ^^ Sounds nice, lol.

Child's dream... =) 2 years ago

I always loved fencing! One of my favourites sports in Olympic Games, but i never had the courage to go and try…
A big agenda and no one to go with… :S
But i think after stabilizing a little more i will start doing my dreams… I lost one so i need to find new ones! :)

Being that my best friend Chris plans to take up some form of ninjutsu when he gets back into town, I have decided it’s finally time to study fencing, which has always been a dream of mine. I always did win stick fights as a small child; it seems only natural.

Then, after we have both achieved some degree of proficiency, we will go downtown, probably to here, and fight, ninja vs. pirate, in costume.

I had wanted to learn how to fence since I was a kid. So when I saw that a local community center was giving lessons I talked one of my buddies into going with me and signing up. The only other student was a 10 year old girl! My friend and I are both over 6 feet and around 200 lbs. We had to change fencing partners after each practice round. It was so funny, this friend and I have always been competitive with each other so we would go at it full bore when we fenced each other, then we’d slow down the intensity some when we fenced the instructor, then we’d slow it waaaay down and kind of tap swords with the 10 year old girl. So the class wasn’t ideal in that sense but it was fun and I’d like to take another fencing class sometime.

i’m going to be a freshman in college and i am also pursuing my 4th year fencing at Texas A&M University. you can’t really explain how to do it in words. i strongly suggest private lessons. if you live in the houston, texas area i recommend going to south houston high school because they offer a beginner as well as a varsity fencing class. if you do tell him anthony said hi. to fence means to have fencing equipment. www.blue-gauntlet.com and www.absolutefencinggear.com are great and dependable fencing vendors. if you want to compete nationally i suggest joining the united states fencing association (USFA) www.usfencing.org
hope that helps for now..

I pretty much sucked at fencing, but I did learn how and it was a lot of fun.

Fencing - great fun! 4 years ago

Fencing is a wonderful sport – lots of fun, with almost unlimited potential for personal improvement. You will be utterly amazed at the way experienced fencers thwart your every attempt to score a single hit against them – and when you finally do manage to get them, it’s one of the best feelings ever.

Great sport. I started, like most, with foil, but gravitated toward epee (right-of-way drove me nuts). Saber looks fun, but the constant rules turmoil (and extra-expensive equipment) has been a turn-off for me.

My biggest trouble has been finding good clubs in places I have lived. The closest ones (I know of) right now areall at least an hour away.
