I know this sounds like a weird goal, but the place looks beautiful and unique and not a place where there’ll be tons of obnoxious American tourists! (I’m not a tourist, fyi. I’m an EXPLORER c;)
How to visit South Africa
How I did it: My school had a study trip planned to go to South Africa for 2 weeks. I had a roomate who went another semester just to study abroad. Bottom line, student status definitely helps.

I was 9 when my parents’ decided to have a trip there and I’m just glad they took me with them. I miss Johannesburg.
I am going to South Africa in late November and early December. Going to spend most of my time in SA on the Garden Route. Would love any suggestions.
I just come back from a 3 1/2 month stay in South Africa. My heart is still in mourning over being away. I had a fantastic time and a really difficult time that will takes months of sharing to get full picture of my experience. and even then… I have to say that this trip was hard, rewarding, exciting and moving. I would totally recommend anyone to go. This is one of my life goals, to study abroad, and I am so thankful that I did it.
The country is beautiful, and for the average tourist it will be a great place to visit. For those who wish to place their feet in the ground and stay for awhile, however, feelings will vary. Although the splendor and beauty of the country seems endless, so does the underlying culture of fear and poverty seem without end.
It is worth the visit, for the beauty and for a more complete view of the world and humanity.
I am supposed to go to South Africa in February and I am getting really nervous about going. It has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while and I hope to have the balls to go through with it next month.
