How to backpack through south america
How I did it: I took a year off right after graduating from high school and worked two jobs to save up in total $6500 CAD which paid for airfare, food, accomodation, transportation, and various other trips I took while in the continent.
Lessons & tips: Don't be afraid of what you don't know and put some trust in humanity.
Resources: Gravity Assisted Mountain biking in Bolivia :P

I have just finished travelling South East Asia, New Zealand, Australia, South Pacific and US and I would really love to travel to South America in the next year.I want to see Brazil, Argentina and Peru and do the Inca Trail, see the Andes, Patagonia, Rio etc.
Looking to do volunteering in south america – brazil and elsewhere.
I found a really good volunteer site (idealist.org), which will help cut down on travel costs.
What seemed like a far off dream is now a close reality. I found a traveling companion, and if all goes well, we will be hitting up (in succession) : Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil. It will be a 2 month excursion costing around $4000.
ClauD!a is back
This is something I really want to do!!
I think backpacking around South America would be an awesome experience!... meeting new ppl.. trying new food.. knowing new cultures..=)
Even though I live in South America… most ppl that want to travel, they dont even think about latin american countries.. maybe this happens because we think we have those countries so close that we shouldnt spend time going there if we can go further.. however, I think South American countries are really beautiful and they have a lot to offer.. In my case, I will take advantage of where I live to start traveling around and get to know all of them if possible!
titinede found a job and is hoping to go on like this and enjoy life the most !
tengo gans de conocer a america central y del sur !! :-)
After having lived in Ecuador for a month I am absolutely hooked on South America. I want to go back in 2009 or 2010 and spend a few months backpacking. I want to (finally!) be trilingual and converse fluently in Spanish and meet people and really learn about a different lifestyle and ways of thinking.
Let’s go together, okay?
Something is finally starting to move. Ticket hunting’s begun and I’ve started initial planning. First destination will be Argentina sometime in late April 2008. If money goes as planned, it’ll last for 100 days…maybe. Oh and depending on final ticket price.
