To ease the burden of typing in College, also, it’ll be fun to have all my letters blanked out and relearn a new method that none of my family can keep up with.

How I did it: I used TypeTrainer4Mac in conjunction with lessons from www.gigliwood.com/abcd/. The home row was super quick, so after that, I tried to learn 2-3 letter pairs per day. After I got the whole keyboard, I went back and reinforced weak letters and established some words.I still need to work on speed, but for now I'm pretty happy. (Also, onto Colemak!) How I did it: It took me about 2 months to touchtyping. I tried various ways, but never really the standard training programs! I used to put a wallpaper of the keyboard layout on my desktop, but only for the initial references. However hard you may feel at the beginning, the comfort will start to grow on you quite nicely. There will be difficulties, and I struggled quite a bit trying to type in my essays; but by the time I was to face my dissertation, … Read how I did it…

How I did it: During military duty (meh, we still have this in Germany) I had a lot of spare time at my hands, and couldn't do any other tasks but office work and some occaisional browsing. So I decided to spend my time learning Dvorak in hope of it being of some use later on. So I mostly used the typing applet on hi-games.net/typing-test, nearly every day. I think it's much more important to train regulary than long, so about 30 minutes a day will be … Read how I did it…

using qwerty computers at the school and friends houses is proving to be a problem, but at home on dvorak im typing @ triple the speed i was _
I’ve completed an online Dvorak typing tutorial a few days ago, and I’m happy to say that I can type Dvorak at a reasonably alright speed now.
It actually feels more comfortable than QWERTY, but I’m guilty of not using it too often haha.
So I’m determined to use Dvorak more often!
AndrewWade is here.
Since I broke my wrist last year and needed a cast, my typing style has changed anyhow (I now only really use the pointer finger on my right hand, while still employing all the fingers on my left hand), so I know I can change my style.
So why not to something more efficient, instead?
After about six years of exclusivly using Dvorak, I’m really thinking about going back to qwerty. :-( It would be easier to type when using someone else’s computer, without having to go into the settings to change it and more importantly it would be easier to type in Chinese.
I’m actually typing this with Dvorak now, and I just started yesterday. I’m very slow at this point of time, but I hope to improve within the next few days and I feel that it’s worth learning.
Update in a few days!
I never learned to touch type which is ironic because I am a computer technician. I learned to “hunt and peck” QWERTY at 55 WPM with less than 90% accuracy.
I have been learning dvorak for less than a week and I can now type with it at about 40 wpm. I think it’s actually easier to learn than QWERTY. I would HIGHLY recommend switching.
And set another goal to relearn Qwerty instead?
There are various ways to set up a Dvorak keyboard on a random computer so there really is little motivation for me to relearn Qwerty… Dvorak makes me very comfortable.

My challenge to learn Dvorak just was marked as FAILED. But actually I didn’t fail. I learned Dvorak while I was in the army, and by now I’m even faster with it than with QWERTY. (about 70 – 80 wpm) Sadly that still doesn’t mean that I use it. I haven’t typed Dvorak for like two months now. The good thing is, that I recall it really easily. I’m typing this in Dvorak at this very moment, and it is proof enough that I leared the layout! Cheers.
I’m starting year two at university in a few weeks – which will probably mean I’ll find myself writing longer essays and stuff like that. I took the summer off learning Dvorak because when I was writing, I needed something familiar… but I’m going to try writing solely with dvorak for the next few weeks and hopefully I’ll make some progress.
