open a school

Shanti is 6 months old now. We’re in our house and I have my classroom set up. However, I have to deal with the zoning commission and get the house updated so we can get licensed. Looks like I’ll have to get a job. Anyone know of any jobs I can do while bringing the baby along? I’m babywearing, so that should help.

Well, when our little one is 4 months old, I will once again be a teacher. But this time, it’ll be in my home, in my own school. I plan on having just 3 students to start with.

I want to start an after school programme or short course for children about grade 5 or 6 covering issues such as communication, mental programming, self love, motivation, positive thinking, spirituality, stress and anger management, personality types, organisation etc and eventually have it as a subject at school. There have been many times in my life where i have thought “why didn’t somebody teach me this when i was younger!” I want to catch kids just before the adolescent age so they are equiped with the life skills to make good choices based on what they really want not out of rebellion or confusion. i would have somebody who is passionate knowledgeable about the subject of the day in to do a lecture/workshop.
A major aspect will be helping kids to define what they love doing things they have a passion for so that maybe they will follow their dreams and live in bliss instead of following a path they think they have to and living a dull passionless life. An example of this that has always stuck in my mind is a girl who was studying law had 6 months of her university to go until she was qualified but had always had a passion for hats and making them (the races type fancy hats). She just loved them and wanted to drop her studies to go into business for herself and make hats. Her family and friends all thought she was mad and told her not to but she did anyway. Her business was extremly successful and she now makes ALOT of money doing something she absoloutly loves and has a deep passion for.

I talked about my idea for my school on a discussion forum, and I now have 5 kids on a waiting list! I may start this in April or May of next year. Just start slow in my own house with 5 or fewer kids.

I want to open a private school for precocious high schoolers in 10 years. Its focus will be on sending them to study abroad. It will be aligned with the 9 principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools. I need to sketch out a timeline. Any advice?
