Places not to be missed ? 5 months ago

I am going to the Glacier National Park for the 4th of July weekend. I am planning on spending 2 full days at the park and would like to know some of your experiences.

So far I found: Going to the Sun Road as a must see ! Can anyone please tell me some other places that I should not miss in the 2 day trip ?

I have heard that “Great Bear Wilderness Area” in the South West of the park contains many grizzly bears and we need to pay to enter that area. Has anyone been to this place and is it worth spending money to enter this area ?

Thank you and I appreciate your suggestions.

Super nice,it was charming, I was there twice once in the winter and once in the summer, both were nice.

    Yes! 17 months ago

Literally one of the best travel memories I have. Do not go through life without spending some time at Glacier.

It's beautiful. I recommend going before the glacier melts... 17 months ago

China’s pollution is raining down acid rain on the forests there, one of the most beautiful cedar forests ever, and global warming is melting the glaciers so they need to think of a different name soon. Go the sooner the better. Start in the south and work your way up, see the lakes on boats, the cedar forests,(handicap friendly),camp there, go on up the going to the sun road to the top, take a hike out to a glacier lake, bring your bear spray and leave your dogs at home, this is a great motorcycle experience as well. Theres a water park for the kids in a neighboring town, Columbia Falls, its fun. You’ll love it, I used to go all the time.

Quite a drive 17 months ago

Glacier Ntl Park is a serious drive, but stunning with views at every angle as you climb the mountain. You better have a solid hand and a strong stomach for heights and narrow ledges! We traveled along the river and saw glimpes of reflection way up the mountain; and we kept asking “what’s up there?”... only to learn that this was where the road wound around the mountain pass.

But you will see the color blue unlike any other blue in the world. So intense its hard to describe. And rugged, raw earth spattered with trees and snow. Amazing to see and definitely worth the drive.

I’ve wanted to go ever since I read Walter McClintock’s “The Old North Trail” 6 years ago.

We hiked the great northern traverse (70 mile west to east traversal) and it was aweinspiring.

The most breathtaking scenery I've ever encountered 3 years ago

Last summer I mentioned in an email to a friend that I was taking the kids to Yellowstone on vacation. My friend told me that Yellowstone was alright but as long as I was up in that general area, I should try and see Glacier. I took my friend’s suggestion and made the drive up there. I was not disappointed! It was the most beautiful national park that I’ve been to. The wildflowers were in bloom and the views were spectacular. We saw a grizzly bear up at Logan Pass and mountain goats on the way back to camp. Pictures don’t do the park any justice! You must see Glacier for yourself. :)

Be sure to do lots of hiking while you’re there. The best things can’t be seen until you get a ways into the backcountry.
