my new obsession 20 months ago

I have a long way to go before I can consider myself a ‘master’ spinner, but the acquisition of a spinning wheel, some additional fiber, and good processing equipment is helpful.

I took a class in handspinning (that is, on a spindle) today and I think I am already hooked, despite frustration with overspun plies, etc.

I think this will be a great new hobby for me, and besides, I AM MAKING YARN THAT I WILL ONE DAY USE.

So excited!!!

Signed up for a class to learn how to spin with a drop spindle. Here we go!

I started last fall, and now I’m teaching! I love it.

I started doing this in fall of 2006. I’m teaching it now! I love it- it’s all consuming.

When I went to University, this was actually a project they made us do for our finial! It was completely UNLIKE any of the other classes or assignments there that we werent sure what to think at first. We had to make our own drop spindels… she gave us a stick, a paperclip, two cd’s and a bag of wool. We could use anything else we wanted. And after we spun it, we had to weave it. It was kinda cool, and gave me something to do that let me watch tv too. :D

Purchased some materials... 2 years ago

I ordered some wool and two drop spindles… they should be here today or tomorrow. This is an attempt to determine whether or not I will like spinning my own yarn (although I suspect I will become completely enraptured by it, just like I have with many other fiber-related pursuits).
