I’ll surpass my goal by a big fat $4 this Friday when I get paid! I’ve let my savings slowly grow with direct deposit—just ignored it for months and now I am there. Yee-haw!

put in another 125 today, bringing my grand total to $630 and some-odd cents. Hopefully by april/may i’ll have $1000
On my first deployment, I should’ve come back to the states with quite a bit of money in my pocket, but that’s not what happened at all. I was foolishly trying to help my significant other, who simply would not help himself. I tried to just keep telling myself that the money was going for worthwhile causes, like maintaining my car, buying food, paying the water bill, paying off a credit card… I came home and I noticed our DVD stack had become pretty tall. Then there was a notice on our door saying the water hadn’t been paid in months. I had to clear up my account with my credit card, and ended up with a 60 day late hit on my credit report. Things were bad…
I went on a second deployment without that nonsense, and I did great. I just set up automatic payments, made sure I had enough money to have fun when we hit port, made realistic goals, and kept my focus of why I wanted to save my money ( I needed to buy a “new” car and move into a new apartment after we got stateside.) I ended up saving $12k. I was proud, and I still save about 50% of all the money I make so I can be free to do what I want later on.
I need a way to be more frugal with my money, even while I am dumping it all into college. And need to diminish my spending to build up my bank account.
