Within this year I need to have this done. Period. No more excuses.
philosophe is a "healthy, extroverted builder" today. and again, 0% are like me.
How I did it: my ex-boyfriend and I were at a bar with an open mic night and, spur of the moment, decided to participate. He borrowed a guitar, I sang, and we just had fun. People seemed to enjoy it. I definitely want to do it again; I know I could do so much better. The stage fright surprised me, since I am used to performing, but I just tried to ignore it as much as possible. Read how I did it…

3 of the things I’ve shared here. A couple of Haiku and the elephant limerick. Had fun and I need to do it again and give ‘em more syllables next time.
I play and sing at our local open mic night most thursday nights. It’s been a fabulous inclusion into my musical life. I used to play my original songs over and over at home trying to perfect them, but the process is speeded up tremendously once you perform them in public…so good for the soul! I’d recommend having a go to anyone with the guts…wether you are good or bad, just have a crack at it! lol
Done! Looks like I found a new hobby. Worth doing.
It’s very difficult to gauge audience reactions. Even in an informal setting, you’re probably under a light and can’t see too many faces. But I didn’t bomb, so I’m pretty happy with how I did. Plus I got a few congratulations and heard a bit of laughter, so I may even stretch to say that I did well for my first time.
It’s happening this Tuesday, at a comedy open mic. Not much to say. I have five minutes and need to get that together tomorrow (don’t want to be over-rehearsed).
Whether I do well or not, this will be my first goal on this website completed since joining. It may be replaced by “Perform WELL at an open mic night” after this Tuesday. We’ll see.

Give me time and I might get up the nerve to do this.
I’m going to get shown around some of NY’s better open mic’s, and I am also being put on their mailing lists (as better open mic’s tend to be pseudo-booked, I guess). I definitely want to do this by the end of the month.
I’m going to put a bit together within the next week or so.
Genevieve-Say Anything But Say What You Mean has cleaned up her goals.
I’m taking off a couple of my long-term goals in singing and becoming famous and I’m going to go through it in smaller increments and this will be my first step. I want to sing some of my own songs at a few open mic nights, and then I’ll move on from this one…I need to learn guitar soon too though, so that I can play some acoustic with my songs. My friends Bobby and Matty(they’re brothers…) are both phenomenal guitar players and they’ve offered to teach me before so I just need to make the time for them to help me. Wish me luck. Loves.
Evie Gendron ready to take on the world, confusing as it may be.
This is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Period.

Life is amazing! Since two weeks ago I actually host my own weekly karaoke show. The former host passed it on to me, since I have consistently provided him keyboard accompaniment for the last four months. I think he left because the audience has been fading away and he’s not really motivated enough to promote it because he’s been at it for about 4 years. So now it’s my turn to attract an audience for the benefit of the organization I work for.
Originally, it really wasn’t a karaoke show. More like a jam session where the host would invite some friends to play along with him.
What killed it was that he didn’t keep developing his repertoire and people finally got tired hearing the same old songs. The number of people that showed up related more to how he managed his social circle than to his music.
Because the karaoke is held in a basement where also other activities take place, I have to set up the equipment everytime I do the karaoke thing. So I’m actually gaining hands-on experience installing PA’s and putting together a semi-professional sound system.
Besides being able to perform for an audience, this whole karaoke thing gives me another advantage: I have a basis to start my own band, because I have a place we can rehearse for free.
