Here’s what I’ve got:
GPA: 4.125/3.5
PSAT: 1840
SAT: 1880
Classes: Out of the ordinary, I’m in Spanish IV and have taken AP Environmental and AP U.S. History as a Sophomore. Most of my other classes are honors.
Extra: Student Council (Treasurer), Youth and Government, Cross Country, Soccer, Key Club, and Spanish Club.
50 Hours of community service a year.
Just to give you an idea of your competition. Hope it helps and good luck.
I wish you all the best. I graduated NCSSM in 1984 so I have the advantage of looking back on my experience with seasoned eyes. So I encourage you to consider all sides of the NCSSM experience, good and bad, and alternatives that might help you get what you want in life without the hassles of a residential school with its many stringent rules and regulations. See my article

I do not mean to be a buzzkiller, but I do want to make sure you apply with eyes wide open. I entered quite starry-eyed and would probably do it again if I had to live in the 1980s. But much has changed since that time. Read the article to learn more.
fuck ncssm. after all the hard work and sleepless nights praying i’d get in due to some crazy miracle…i didn’t get in. yeah, i knew my grades weren’t the best. but what i did know is that i worked really hard in school to get the grades i had. turns out that wasn’t good enough. in retrospect, my “really good essay” wasn’t great after all. and i probably bombed the math test there as well. i know i shouldn’t, but inside i hope that all the NCSSM students don’t have good futures. because i know that none of them worked or prayed as hard as i did to get in. and now im all emo again…
Worth doing!
Soo I go accepted. Finally. After all of that process and wondering and living with alternative futures in mind…. im going to one of the country’s best high schools. I worked hard on the application and I think my essay was the deciding factor… if you are thinking of applying dont be afraid to add in charm and funnies because they make you stand out. Wish me luck… here comes the hard part!

Justzannah asks,
“What does everyone's application look like so far? I don't know where I stand at all in terms of getting in, but like you,I REALLY want to get in.”
